Tchibanga
Tchibanga is a city in the Nyanga Province of southern Gabon, situated on the Nyanga River. It has an estimated population of 24,000 (2008). The town lies on the N6 road and is home to Tchibanga Airport and a market. It lies near the Ivela Falls. Tchibanga is the capital of the Nyanga province. Tchibanga is home to approximately 15,000 Gabonese people, but is also home to a sizeable refugee population from Congo-Brazzaville. The UNHCR runs an office there providing services for the refugees and locals. The majority of people living in Tchibanga, including most Congolese refugees, belong to the Bapounou ethnic group. Tchibanga sits on the banks of the Nyanga River. It is located in Gabon's southern grassland region and does not have the deep jungle environment of many Gabonese cities. Bongoville is a town in southeastern Gabon, east of Franceville. It was known as Lewai until it was renamed for President Omar Bongo, who was born in what was then a village but was greatly enlarged under his presidency. Bifoun
Bifoun is a town located in Moyen-Ogooué province, Gabon. It lies on the intersection between the N1 and N2 roads. The town is split by the N1 road from Libreville. The road is surrounded by farmlands with agricultural produce including grapefruits, mandarin oranges, as well as ground nuts. Beyond the farmlands lies the rainforest. The N1 and N2 intersection lies on the south-east of the town. While the N1 goes southwards into Lambaréné, the N2 follows the path to Ndjolé Ndjolé is the capital town in the Abanga-Bigne Department in Gabon, lying northeast of Lambaréné on the Ogooué River, the N2 road and the Trans-Gabon Railway. Belinga
Belinga is a location in Gabon with as yet unexploited iron ore deposits. These ore deposits extend into neighbouring Cameroon and Congo. Mining The Belinga iron reserves were discovered in 1895.Douglas A. Yates, "Gabon", in ''Africa Yearbook: Politics, Economy and Society South of the Sahara 2006'' (2007), page 257. They are estimated to hold about one billion tons of iron ore. Iron ore mining was expected to start in 2011 but due to a lack of financing the project is currently on hold. Because of slowness in getting the project started, the Chinese rights may be in 2012 given to BHP. Transport A 237 km long railway branch line is proposed branching from Booue to enable these deposits to be exploited. As the tonneages hauled will be greatly increased, this line may also extend to a port at Santa Clara which would extend the railway to 560 km. Batouala
Batouala is a small village in Gabon halfway along the dirt road from Makokou to Mékambo, in the north-eastern province of Ogooué-Ivindo. Bakoumba is a town in south eastern Gabon with a population of around 2,500 - 3000 people. Makokou
Makokou is the regional capital of the Ogooué-Ivindo province in Gabon. Its coordinates are . Its altitude is 308 m. Its population in 2004 is around 16,600. The city lies on the Ivindo River and the N4 road. It grew around iron ore mining and lies near the Ivindo National Park. Transport A branch of the Trans-Gabon Railway was originally planned to terminate in the town, but the route was abandoned for what are often described as political reasons. At the time, the price of iron ore from the nearby iron ore mines was depressed. In 2006, proposals to build this branch with a possible extension to other iron ore mines at Mbala, Cameroon are being considered. At new deep water port at Santa Clara would be part of the project. The town has one airport, Makokou Airport.
