Ronald Bon de Sousa Pernes ( ; born 1940) is a Swiss-born Canadian philosopher and academic. He is an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Toronto, which he joined in 1966. Biography De Sousa possesses both UK and Canadian citizenship. Joseph Fernand Lionel Vianney Décarie, , was a Canadian philosopher. He was born November 28, 1917, in Montreal, Canada and died there on September 6, 2009, of pneumonia. Early life Vianney Décarie was a descendant of an old Quebec family. His grandfather, Barthélémy Thélesphore Décarie, was a major landowner, whose farms stretched through the west end of present-day Montreal and the village of Notre Dame de Grace. The Décarie Expressway bears the family's name. Career At 17, he won the Prix Colin de Rhétorique for the best marks in the province among the collèges classiques, the religious-run preparatory schools in Quebec. By 1950, Décarie earned his doctorate and, in 1954, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He studied all of St. Thomas Aquinas's writing on Aristotle at the Widener Library of Harvard University. Lorraine Code (born October 19, 1937) is Professor Emerita of Philosophy at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Her principal area of research is feminist epistemology and the politics of knowledge. Career She earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Queen's University and her PhD at the University of Guelph in 1978. After finishing her BA at Queen's in the 1950s, Code travelled to Germany on an exchange fellowship. She then spent the following years teaching in the United Kingdom before returning to Canada for graduate school. In 1987, Code was appointed a Canada Research Fellow at York University, and was later promoted to the title of Professor in the Department of Philosophy.
