List Of Canadian First-class Cricketers
This is a list of Canadian first-class cricketers. first-class cricket, First-class cricket matches are those between international teams or the highest standard of domestic teams in which teams have two innings each. Generally, matches are eleven players a side but there have been exceptions. Today all matches must be scheduled to have at least three days' duration; historically, matches were played to a finish with no pre-defined timespan. This list is not limited to those who have played first-class cricket for Canadian cricket team, Canada and may include Canadian players who played their first-class cricket elsewhere. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Latchman Bhansingh
Latchman Bhansingh (born 26 November 1966) is a former Canadian international cricketer. He was born in Guyana, and began his career in Guyanese domestic cricket, playing two first-class games for Berbice. After emigrating to Canada, he represented the Canadian national side at several tournaments in the 1990s. Career in Guyana Born in Bartica, Bhansingh captained Guyana's under-19 side at two West Indies Youth Championships, in 1985 (when Guyana won the title) and in 1986. His under-19 teammates included Carl Hooper, a future captain of both Guyana and the West Indies, and Sudesh Dhaniram, a future United States international. Playing for Berbice despite being born in Essequibo, Bhansingh made his first-class debut for them in the final of the 1985–86 Guystac Trophy, less than a month before his 19th birthday. Combined Islands Cricket Team
The Combined Islands cricket team was a cricket team that represented the cricket-playing islands of the Lesser Antilles, excluding Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago who fielded their own teams. They played in 13 Shell Shield tournaments from 1965-66 to 1980-81, when they won their first title and were subsequently disbanded into Leeward Islands and Windward Islands. Those two teams had first-class status before 1980–81, but competed together in the Shell Shield. Garnet Ernest Brisbane (born 31 December 1938) is a former international cricketer who captained Canada at the 1979 ICC Trophy. He was born in Saint Vincent, and before emigrating to Canada played at first-class level in the West Indies. Lancashire County Cricket Club
Lancashire County Cricket Club represents the historic county of Lancashire in English cricket. The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Lancashire's home is Old Trafford Cricket Ground, although the team also play matches at other grounds around the county. Lancashire was a founder member of the County Championship in 1890 and have won the competition nine times, most recently in 2011. The club's limited overs team is called Lancashire Lightning. Lancashire were widely recognised as the Champion County four times between 1879 and 1889. They won their first two County Championship titles in the 1897 and 1904 seasons. Glamorgan County Cricket Club
Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. Glamorgan is the only Welsh first-class cricket club. They have won the English County Championship competition in 1948, 1969 and 1997. Tom Brierley
Thomas Leslie Brierley (15 June 1910 – 7 January 1989) was an English and Canadian cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper. A curiosity of his county career is that his highest career score (116) was scored twice, one playing for Glamorgan, and once playing against Glamorgan. Before the Second World War, Brierley played his county cricket for Glamorgan. After the war he moved to play for Lancashire playing for three seasons before emigrating to Canada. Barbados National Cricket Team
The Barbados national cricket team is the national cricket team of Barbados, organised by the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA). Barbados is a member of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), which is a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in its own right, and Barbadians play internationally for the West Indies cricket team. Hampshire County Cricket Club
Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863. Because of poor performances for several seasons until 1885, Hampshire then lost its status for nine seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Hampshire originally played at the Antelope Ground, Southampton until 1885 when they relocated to the County Ground, Southampton until 2000, before moving to the purpose-built Rose Bowl in West End, which is in the Borough of Eastleigh. Lawrence Black (cricketer)
Lawrence Garfield Black (15 September 1881 – 14 August 1959) was an English cricketer. Black was a left-handed batsman who bowled left-arm medium pace. Black made his first-class debut for Hampshire against the Gentlemen of Philadelphia in 1903. On debut, Black took his only first-class wicket, that of Philadelphia batsman John Lester. After the First World War and sixteen years after making his debut for Hampshire, Black made his second first-class appearance for Hampshire in 1919. Black played three matches in the 1919 County Championship against Middlesex, Surrey and Yorkshire. Black died at Dewsbury, Yorkshire on 14 August 1959.
