''As Aventuras da Turma da Mônica'' ( en, The Adventures of Monica's Gang, italic=yes) is a 1982 Brazilian animated anthology film directed by Mauricio de Sousa, based on his ''Monica's Gang'' comic books. This was the first feature film based on ''Monica's Gang'' and which began production of the cartoon series based on the comics. The film mixes animation with some scenes made in live-action interpreted by Mauricio de Sousa in his studio. The film shows four individual stories that end up linking through the characters interacting with Mauricio through phone calls. Distributed by Embrafilme, the film was released theatrically in São Paulo on 23 December 1982 and in Rio de Janeiro on 10 January 1983. Jayme Cortez
Jayme Cortez ( Lisbon, September 8th, 1926 - São Paulo, July 4th, 1987) was a Portuguese-born Brazilian comics artist. He is considered one of the most important artists of Brazilian comics. He was born in Portugal and began his career in the Portuguese magazine ''O Mosquito''. He emigrated to Brazil in 1947, and began working with horror and children's comics. In 1959, he founded the Continental publishing house alongside Miguel Penteado, working with important artists such as Rodolfo Zalla, Eugênio Colonnese, Gedeone Malagola, Júlio Shimamoto , Flávio Colin, among others. Mauricio De Sousa
Mauricio Araújo de Sousa (; born October 27, 1935) is a Brazilian cartoonist and businessman who has created over 200 characters for his popular series of children's comic books named "Turma da Mônica" or "Monica's Gang (Currently known as: Monica and friends)". At 17 years of age, he worked for a daily newspaper called ''Folha de S. Paulo, Folha da Manhã'' as a crime reporter. In 1959, Sousa quit that job and began his comic book career, and created ''Monica's Gang''. Sousa's characters were inspired by children he knew from his childhood and by his own children. His later style is slightly reminiscent of that of Osamu Tezuka, a famous Japanese Mangaka, manga artist and personal friend.
