The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Kuwait is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in the State of Kuwait, and head of the UK's diplomatic mission in Kuwait. The official title is ''His Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to the State of Kuwait''. The Sheikhdom of Kuwait became a British protectorate in 1899 after an agreement was signed between Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah and the British government in India, due to severe threats to Kuwait's independence from the Ottoman Empire. The British government was represented by Political Agents who were appointed by the Indian Political Service until 1948, then by the Foreign Office. In 1961 Kuwait became independent and the last political agent, John Richmond, became the first British ambassador to Kuwait. Geoffrey Arthur
Sir Geoffrey George Arthur, (19 March 1920 – 15 May 1984) was a British diplomat and academic administrator. After a career in the Foreign Office, he was Master of Pembroke College, Oxford, from 1975 until his death in 1984. Early life and education He was educated at Ashby-de-la-Zouch Grammar School and Christ Church, Oxford. His university education was interrupted by war service. He served in Egypt, Iran and Iraq, and on returning to Oxford, transferred from studying classics to Persian and Arabic. He graduated with first class honours. Career He joined the Foreign Office in 1947, serving in Baghdad, Ankara, Cairo and Bonn. He was Ambassador to Kuwait from 1967 to 1970. Stuart Laing (born 22 July 1948) is a former British diplomat and was Master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge from 2008 to 2018. Career as diplomat Laing entered the diplomatic service in 1970. William Hugh Fullerton (born 11 February 1939) is a British retired diplomat Fullerton studied Oriental Languages at Queens' College, Cambridge. Sir Peter James Scott Moon (1 April 1928 – 10 July 1991) was a British diplomat. Career Peter James Scott Moon was educated at Uppingham School and Worcester College, Oxford. He entered the Home Office in 1952 but transferred to the then Commonwealth Relations Office in 1954, serving in South Africa and Ceylon and as private secretary to the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations.
