The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Denmark is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Denmark, and head of the UK's diplomatic mission in Denmark. The official title is ''His Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark''. Until 1947, the British representative in Denmark held the rank of ''Minister'', and the Danish representative in the UK the corresponding rank of ''Gesandt''. In 1947, Denmark and the United Kingdom upgraded their diplomatic representations to each other and both heads of mission have since held the rank of ''Ambassador''. Augustus John Foster
Sir Augustus John Foster, 1st Baronet, (1 or 4 December 1780 – 1 August 1848) was a British people, British diplomat and politician. Born into a notable British family, Foster served in a variety of diplomatic functions in continental Europe and the United States, interrupted by a short stint as a Member of Parliament. He wrote about his American experiences in ''Notes on the United States of America''. Early life and family Foster was born in 1780, possibly in Ireland, and went on to study at Drogheda Grammar School and Christ Church, Oxford. Henry Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound
Sir Henry George Elliot (30 June 1817 – 30 March 1907) was a British diplomat. He was the second son of Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto. He was most noted for his period as ambassador at Constantinople, and his participation in the 1876-77 Constantinople Conference. Elliot took a pro-Turkish line despite the ‘Bulgarian atrocities’. He argued in a dispatch he made on 4 September 1876 "that British interests in preventing change in the Turkish empire were 'not affected by the question whether it was 10,000 or 20,000 persons who perished in the suppression'. As a result of the unpopularity in Britain of his pragmatism in the face of atrocities he was relocated to Vienna in 1877. Charles Murray Marling
Sir Charles Murray Marling (3 December 1862 – 17 February 1933) was a British diplomat. Early life Marling was born on 3 December 1862 in the village of King's Stanley near Stroud, Gloucestershire, the second son of Sir William Marling, 2nd Baronet. His brother was Percival Marling who was awarded the Victoria Cross. He was educated at Wellington and Trinity College, Cambridge before joining the Diplomatic Service in 1888. Ralph Spencer Paget
Sir Ralph Spencer Paget (26 November 1864 – 11 May 1940) was a British diplomat in the Foreign Service, culminating in his appointment as Ambassador to Brazil in 1918, a position he held until 1920. Early life and career Ralph Spencer Paget was born on 26 November 1864 at the British Legation in Copenhagen, where his father Sir Augustus Paget GCB (1823–1896) served as Minister to Denmark. His German mother Walburga, née Countess von Hohenthal (1839–1929) was a diarist, writer and an intimate friend of Queen Victoria. Henry Lowther (diplomat)
Sir Henry Crofton Lowther (26 March 1858 – 23 November 1939) was a British diplomat, ambassador to Chile and Denmark. Career Henry Crofton Lowther was educated at Harrow School and Balliol College, Oxford. Conyngham Greene
Sir William Conyngham Greene, (29 October 1854 – 30 June 1934) was a British diplomat who served as minister to Switzerland, Romania and Denmark, and as ambassador to Japan. Early life William Conyngham Greene was born in Dublin, Ireland, son of Richard Jonas Greene, barrister and writer, and the Hon. Louisa Plunket, also a writer; his grandfathers were the eminent judge Richard Wilson Greene and John Plunket, 3rd Baron Plunket. Alan Johnstone (diplomat)
Sir Alan Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone (31 August 1858 – 31 July 1932) was a British diplomat. Biography Johnstone was a younger son of Harcourt Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone, 1st Baron Derwent, and Charlotte Mills. He entered Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1879. He became Secretary of the Legation to Copenhagen in 1895, and moved to Germany as Secretary of the Legation ( Charges d'Affaires) to Darmstadt and Karlsruhe in 1900. In April 1902 he represented the British King Edward VII during the Golden Jubilee of Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden. The following year he was appointed Secretary at the Embassy in Vienna. In 1905 he became Ambassador to Denmark and served in that position until 1910. He was made a Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog and a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. Sir William Edward Goschen, 1st Baronet, (18 July 1847 – 20 May 1924) was a British diplomat. Background and education Goschen was born at Eltham, England, the twelfth child and sixth son of Wilhelm Heinrich Göschen, originally of Leipzig, Saxony, and Henrietta Ohmann, who was born in London. At the time of his birth his father was 54. The Liberal Unionist politician Lord Goschen was Goschen's elder brother. He was educated at Rugby and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Sir Edmund Douglas Veitch Fane (6 May 1837 – 20 March 1900) was a British diplomat. Early life and education Fane was born in Boyton, Wiltshire, the eldest son of Rev. Arthur Fane (d. 1872) of Boyton, prebendary of Salisbury, by Lucy, daughter of John Benett of Pythouse, Wiltshire. His father was a descendant of Thomas Fane, 8th Earl of Westmorland. He matriculated at Merton College, Oxford on 28 May 1855, but did not graduate. Career Having entered the diplomatic service, Fane was appointed in 1858 attaché at Tehran. Sir Edmund John Monson, 1st Baronet, (6 October 1834 – 28 October 1909), misspelled in some sources as Edward Monson, was a British diplomat who was minister or ambassador to several countries. Background and education The Hon. Edmund John Monson was born at Seal, Kent, the third son of William Monson, 6th Baron Monson, and Eliza Larken Monson. He was educated at Eton College and then Balliol College, Oxford, graduating in 1855, and was elected as a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford in 1858.
