Edmund Douglas Veitch Fane
Sir Edmund Douglas Veitch Fane (6 May 1837 – 20 March 1900) was a British diplomat. Early life and education Fane was born in Boyton, Wiltshire, the eldest son of Rev. Arthur Fane (d. 1872) of Boyton, prebendary of Salisbury, by Lucy, daughter of John Benett of Pythouse, Wiltshire. His father was a descendant of Thomas Fane, 8th Earl of Westmorland. He matriculated at Merton College, Oxford on 28 May 1855, but did not graduate. Career Having entered the diplomatic service, Fane was appointed in 1858 attaché at Tehran. In 1863, he was transferred to Turin, and from Turin in 1866 to St. Petersburg as second secretary. In varied years 1867 to 1878, Fane had stays of brief duration at Washington, Florence, Munich, Brussels, Vienna, and Berne. He was secretary of legation at Copenhagen 1880–1, secretary of embassy at Madrid 1882–5, and at Constantinople 1886–93, and minister at Belgrade from 1893 until 1898. Frederick Robert St John
Sir Frederick Robert St John (2 March 1831 – 27 February 1923) was a British diplomat. Background St John was the fourth son of Hon. Ferdinand St John, third son of George St John, 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke and his wife Selina Charlotte Keatinge, daughter of Maurice St Leger Keatinge. He was educated at Cheltenham College. In 1855, St John entered the diplomatic service and was sent as attaché to Florence and then to Stuttgart. He was promoted to second secretary at the Embassy in Peking in 1862 and afterwards was moved to Constantinople and later to Vienna. Career From 1872, he was secretary of legation at the Embassy at Buenos Aires, from 1877 at Rio de Janeiro and in 1879 returned as secretary of embassy to Constantinople. Sir William Edward Goschen, 1st Baronet, (18 July 1847 – 20 May 1924) was a British diplomat. Background and education Goschen was born at Eltham, England, the twelfth child and sixth son of Wilhelm Heinrich Göschen, originally of Leipzig, Saxony, and Henrietta Ohmann, who was born in London. At the time of his birth his father was 54. The Liberal Unionist politician Lord Goschen was Goschen's elder brother. He was educated at Rugby and Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
