This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. Fairmont is a city in and county seat of Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 18,313 at the 2020 census. Elkins is a city in and the county seat of Randolph County, West Virginia, United States. Mercer County Airport is in Mercer County, three miles northeast of Bluefield, West Virginia and about nine miles southwest of Princeton, West Virginia.
