Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Bandundu Airport is an airport serving Bandundu, capital of the Kwilu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Bandundu non-directional beacon (Ident: BAN) is located on the field. The reports may refer to the same occurrence with factual errors: * In one report, a Let-410UVP, tail number 9Q-CIM of Cargo Bull Aviation suffered a bird strike and crashed with no injuries but aircraft written off. * In the other report an Antonov (either an An-24 or An-32) that had stopped en route from Kinshasa N'Dolo Airport to Nioki Airport lost its number 1 engine during initial climb and crashed from Bandundu with substantial damage but no injuries. Beni-Dibele
Bena Dibele (also ''Beni Dibele'' or ''Bene Dibele'') is a community in Sankuru province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bena Dibele is on the right bank of the Sankuru River just below the point where it is joined by the Lubefu River. In the early 20th century Bena Dibele was a military station under the command of a sous-officier of a Belgian cavalry regiment, assisted by a young civilian. There were about forty native soldiers stationed at the post, which served as a collection point for rubber brought in by the local people in payment of taxes. Supplies for posts such as Kole and Lodja on the Lukenye River to the north were landed at Bene Dibele and carried overland, a more reliable route than the fast and narrow Lukenye. There were very extensive government rubber plantations under the control of a white official about upstream from Dibele. Bena Dibele has always depended on the river for communication. Nord-Kivu
North Kivu (french: link=no, Nord-Kivu) is a province bordering Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its capital is Goma. North Kivu borders the provinces of Ituri to the north, Tshopo to the northwest, Maniema to the southwest, and South Kivu to the south. To the east, it borders the countries of Uganda and Rwanda. The province consists of three cities—Goma, Butembo and Beni—and six territories—Beni, Lubero, Masisi, Rutshuru, Nyiragongo and Walikale. It is home to the Virunga National Park, a World Heritage Site containing the endangered mountain gorillas. The region is politically unstable and since 1998 has been one of the flashpoints of the military conflicts in the region. Beni, Democratic Republic Of The Congo
Beni is a city in north eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, lying immediately west of the Virunga National Park and the Rwenzori Mountains, on the edge of the Ituri Forest. Overview Beni is home to a market, an airport and the Christian Bilingual University of Congo (UCBC). As of 2013 it had an estimated population of 231,952. Beni contains four ''communes'', or municipalities: Beni, Bungulu, Ruwenzori and Mulekera. The town was the scene of fierce fighting in the Second Congo War around 2001. Beni also has many MONUC bases; elements of the Indian-led North Kivu Brigade are based in the town. Between October 2014 and May 2016 over 500 people died in a series of attacks on Beni and its surrounding area that have been attributed to Ugandan Islamist rebels. Province Of Équateur
Équateur is one of the 21 new provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo created in the 2015 repartitioning. Équateur, Mongala, Nord-Ubangi, Sud-Ubangi, and Tshuapa provinces are the result of the dismemberment of the former Équateur province. The new province was formed from the Équateur district and the independently administered city of Mbandaka which retained its status as a provincial capital. History The province of Équateur created in 1917 was much larger than today. Over time it went through a number of border and name changes. Under Article 2 of the 2006 Constitution it was to assume its current boundaries, but administratively they were not finalized until 2015. Basankusu
Basankusu is a town in Équateur Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is the main town and administrative centre of the Basankusu Territory. In 2004, it had an estimated population of 23,764. It has a gravel airstrip, covered and open markets, a hospital, and three cellphone networks, the first of which was installed in 2006. The town is also known as a centre for bonobo conservation efforts. Despite such developments, most inhabitants live at a subsistence level: hunting, fishing, keeping chickens and keeping a vegetable plot. In 2010, the workers at the local palm plantation would earn an average monthly salary of $40 (US dollars), most others would have much less.
