Marcell Jankovics
Marcell Jankovics (21 October 1941 – 29 May 2021) was a Hungarian graphic artist, film director, animator and author. He is best known for the animated films '' Johnny Corncob'' (1973; the first animated feature of his native country) and '' Son of the White Mare'' (1981; cited as one of the best animated films ever made). Life and career Jankovics was born on 21 October 1941 in Budapest, Hungary. From 1955 he attended the Pannonhalma Benedictine Secondary School. He started working at Pannónia in 1960. His fourth feature film ''The Tragedy of Man'' was in production from 1988 until its release in 2011. He died on 29 May 2021. Attila Dargay
Attila Dargay (June 20, 1927 – October 20, 2009) was a Hungarian comics artist and animator. He was born in Nyékládháza, Mezőnyék. Life He began working as a scenery painter for the Hungarian National Theatre in the late 1940s. He directed such animations productions as ''Hajra, Mozdony!'' (1972), ''Mattie the Goose-boy (1977 film), Mattie the Goose-boy'' (1977), ''The Little Fox'' (1981), ''Szaffi, The Treasure of Swamp Castle'' (1985), and ''Captain of the Forest'' (1988). He studied at the College of Fine Arts in Budapest until 1948 when he was discharged because of political reasons. From 1951 he worked as a stage setting painter at Hungary's National Theatre, and in parallel he worked as a trainee on animated films, from 1954 he worked as a cartoon planner. Gustav, also known as Gustavus, (Hungarian ''Gusztáv'', 1966-1979) was a Hungarian series of animated short cartoons (5 minutes) for adults. Each episode tells an adventure of the main character, Gustav, related to the grey realities of urban life. Characteristic feature of the show was that episodes were independent: for example, Gustav is sometimes a bachelor, sometimes has large family. In Eastern Europe and Yugoslavia the episodes were broadcast on TV in the 80s, usually as airtime filler. The series was also broadcast in Western Europe and even in New Zealand - because it was not using language, other than gibberish sound, it was able to easily transcend boundaries.
