Auto Racing
Auto racing (also known as car racing, motor racing, or automobile racing) is a motorsport involving the racing of automobiles for competition. Auto racing has existed since the invention of the automobile. Races of various sorts were organised, with the first recorded as early as 1867. Many of the earliest events were effectively Classic trials, reliability trials, aimed at proving these new machines were a practical mode of transport, but soon became an important way for automobile makers to demonstrate their machines. By the 1930s, specialist racing cars had developed. There are now numerous different categories, each with different rules and regulations. Daniel Gaunt
Daniel Gaunt, born 27 February 1985, in Auckland, is a New Zealand racing driver. Owner of Game Over Auckland Formula Racing After rising through the ranks of New Zealand Formula Ford, which included a third-place finish in the 2002 New Zealand Grand Prix, Gaunt moved to Australia, competing in the Formula 4000 category and winning the 2003 Australian Drivers' Championship. With Formula 4000 collapsing, the title did not lead anywhere and Gaunt returned to New Zealand. After a win in the 2004 Lady Wigram Trophy driving a Dallara F3, Gaunt moved on to compete in the inaugural Toyota Racing Series, finishing third in the final standings. A season in Champ Car Atlantics followed with the Paul Newman owned Newman/Wachs Racing. Jaap Van Lagen
Jaap van Lagen (born 22 December 1976 in Ede) is a Dutch racing driver, who is a former competitor in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and a former Eurocup Megane Trophy champion. He has also raced in the World Touring Car Championship. Racing career World Touring Car Championship In 2008 he raced in the World Touring Car Championship for Russian Bears Motorsport in a Lada 110. For the 2009 WTCC season he returned with full manufacturer backing from Lada. Lada confirms three cars for the premiere He never scored a single point. Formula Volkswagen Germany
The Formula Volkswagen Germany was a short-lived single-seater category in Germany between 2001 and 2003. History The Formula Volkswagen was launched in 2000 as the new Formula Vee by Volkswagen Motorsport. Reynard Motorsports constructed the chassis while the engine was derived from the Volkswagen Formula 3 engine. The initial race was run at the Salzburgring on June 10, 2001. The race was won by Belgian youngster Philip Cloostermans. Cloostermans finished second in the standings of the first season, behind Walter Lechner Jr.. The following season an updated Formula Volkswagen chassis was presented. The new car had aerodynamic updates to more resemble the dimensions of a Formula 3 car. The racing format was also different for the 2002 season. Instead of one race each weekend, there were now two. The series struggled to attract more than fifteen competitors each weekend. The 2003 Formula Nippon Championship was contested over 10 rounds. 10 different teams and 21 different drivers competed. Satoshi Motoyama
Satoshi Motoyama (本山哲 - Motoyama Satoshi; born March 4, 1971) is a Japanese professional racing driver and team manager. He is best known for racing in the Super GT Series, formerly known as the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) as a factory driver for Nissan, and for racing in the Formula Nippon Championship (now known as the Super Formula Championship). He is a three-time champion of the GT500 class of Super GT, and a four-time Formula Nippon/Super Formula champion, making him one of the most successful Japanese racing drivers of all-time. Formula Nippon Championship
The Japanese Super Formula Championship is a formula racing series. It is considered as being the top level of single-seater racing in Japan and regional motorsports in Asia. The series is sanctioned by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) and managed by Japan Race Promotion (JRP). The first Japanese Top Formula championship was held in 1973 as the All-Japan Formula 2000 Championship. In 1978, the series transformed into the All-Japan Formula Two Championship, and again in 1987, into the All-Japan Formula 3000 Championship. For the most part, these Japanese racing series closely followed their European counterparts in terms of technical regulations. The JRP was established in 1995, and began managing the series in 1996, under its new name, the Formula Nippon Championship.
