Lisbon Academy Of Sciences, Class Of Letters
The Class of Letters (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Classe de Letras'') of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences holds an official consultative role on the Portuguese language in Portugal. It was created by the queen Maria I of Portugal, on 24 December 1779, during the Age of Enlightenment. It is based in Lisbon. The current president of the board is Adriano Moreira. Adriano Moreira
Adriano José Alves Moreira, ComC GCC GOIH GCSE (6 September 1922 – 23 October 2022) was a Portuguese lawyer, professor and a leading political figure in Portugal throughout the second half of the 20th century. Education Adriano Moreira was born in Macedo de Cavaleiros, Northern Portugal, son of António José Moreira and wife Leopoldina do Céu Alves, and graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1944. Later he would be awarded a doctorate from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Moreira started as a sympathizer of the Portuguese Democratic Opposition movement; his name appeared on a list of signantes of the MUD in 1945. He was the lawyer of the family of General José Marques Godinho, who had been arrested (and who later died in prison) because of his attempt to overthrow the Salazar regime in 1947. The Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL) ( English: ''Brazilian Academy of Letters'') is a Brazilian literature, literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on Tuesday, 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on Thursday, 28 January 1897. On Tuesday, 20 July of the same year, the academy started its operation. According to its statutes, it is the pre-eminent Portuguese council for matters pertaining to the Portuguese language. International Portuguese Language Institute
The International Portuguese Language Institute ( pt, Instituto Internacional da LÃngua Portuguesa, IILP) is the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, Community of Portuguese Language Countries's institute supporting the spread and popularity of the Portuguese language in the world.
