Tully, Queensland
Tully is a town and locality in the Cassowary Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It is adjacent to the Bruce Highway, approximately south of Cairns by road and north of Townsville. At the , the population was 2,390. Tully is perhaps best known for being one of the wettest towns in Australia and home to the 7.9 metre tall Golden Gumboot. The Tully River (previously known as the Mackay River) was named after Surveyor-General William Alcock Tully in the 1870s. The town of Tully was named after the river when it was surveyed during the erection of the sugar mill in 1924 (although the river does not flow through the town or the locality). Vicki Cardwell BEM (née Hoffmann, born 21 April 1955, in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former World No. 1 squash player from Australia. She was one of the leading players on the international squash circuit from the late-1970s through to the mid-1990s. During her career, she won the World Open in 1983, and captured the British Open title four consecutive times in 1980-83. Since retiring from the top-level game, Cardwell has enjoyed continued success in seniors events. She won four World Masters Championships titles between 1987 and 1995. Alison Waters (born 19 March 1984 in London) is a former professional squash player from England. Career As a junior player, Waters won her first major squash tournament – the British Under-12 title – at the age of nine-and-a-half. She retained the title the following year. She was a three-time runner-up at the British Open Under-14 Championships. She won her first professional title in 2005 at the Forbes Open, beating Carla Khan in the final. Waters won the British National Squash Championships in February 2010, beating Jenny Duncalf in the final 10–12, 11–7, 4–11, 11–7, 12–10. Waters also won the championship in 2008 beating Laura Lengthorn-Massaro and finished as the runner-up in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
