Lionsgate Entertainment World, officially abbreviated to LEW, is a theme park found on Hengqin Island, Guangdong Province, China. The park opened on July 31, 2019 as the first Lionsgate Theme Park. Designed by the Thinkwell Group, the park is the first of its kind dubbed "the world's first vertical theme park." History In November 2016, it was announced that Lionsgate was looking to expand its brand into the theme park world, hiring the Thinkwell Group to lead the design project of a new theme park based in China. Originally slated to open in 2018, the indoor theme park was set to spread across 237,000 square-feet. The five-and-a-half-acre indoor theme park was announced to be opening with over 30 attractions, based on popular franchises like The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga and Now You See Me. Hengqin
Hengqin (, pt, Ilha da Montanha) is an island in Zhuhai, a prefecture-level city and Special economic zones of China, special economic zone in Guangdong, Guangdong Province of the China, People's Republic of China. It has a population of about 3,000. Parts of Hengqin were leased to Macau by the State Council of the People's Republic of China starting in 2009, with the area expanding. In the leased parts of the island, Macau law applies. The whole island is designated a special economic district, as Hengqin New Area, similar to Binhai, Binhai New Area in Tianjin and Pudong, Pudong New Area in Shanghai. Zhuhai (, ; Yale: ''Jyūhói''), also known as Chuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, on the southeastern edge of Pearl River Delta. Its name literally means "pearl sea", which originates from the city's location at the mouth of the Pearl River meeting the South China Sea.
