Linwood is a residential neighborhood in Wichita, Kansas, United States. It lies in the south-central part of the city west of Interstate 135. Geography Linwood is located at (37.668056, -97.320833) at an elevation of . It consists of the area between Southeast Boulevard in the west and south, Lincoln Street in the north, and Hydraulic Avenue in the east. The Hyde neighborhood lies to the north, Schweiter to the east, Mead to the southeast, and South Central to the south and west. Government For the purposes of representation on the Wichita City Council, most of Linwood is in Council District 1. A small portion of the neighborhood south of Mount Vernon Street is in Council District 3. For the purposes of representation in the Kansas Legislature, Linwood is in the 25th district of the Kansas Senate and the 86th district of the Kansas House of Representatives. South Central, Wichita, Kansas
South Central is a neighborhood in Wichita, Kansas, United States. A mixed commercial and residential area on the east bank of the Arkansas River, it is among the city’s oldest neighborhoods. History South Central was subdivided and developed in the early 1900s as a residential neighborhood for workers commuting downtown via street car. In addition, fairgrounds were built at its south end along the east bank of the Arkansas River. Aside from a few small businesses, it remained a residential area of single-family houses until World War II. The routing of U.S. Route 81 onto Broadway Avenue, which runs north-south through South Central, along with rail lines further east triggered commercial and industrial development. The Hyde, Wichita, Kansas
The Hyde, also known as Kellogg School, is a neighborhood in Wichita, Kansas, United States. It is a mixed commercial and residential area immediately southeast of Downtown Wichita on the west side of Interstate 135. History Inventor and businessman A. A. Hyde donated the land for Hyde Park in 1884. The area surrounding the park was platted as a residential neighborhood called Hydes Addition. Hyde went on to found Mentholatum in Wichita in 1889. In 1909, the company’s headquarters was built on East Douglas Avenue in the neighborhood. Several of the city’s historic buildings were constructed in The Hyde over the following decades including Willowdale, the mansion and estate of local farmer J. Hudson McKnight. The estate and several other properties were torn down in the 1960s to make way for apartment buildings and retail stores.
