The Wichita Public Library is the local public library system in Wichita, Kansas, United States. It consists of a central library located downtown and six branch locations distributed throughout the city. Locations Four district/regional branches (Alford, Evergreen, Rockwell and Westlink) offer a mix of basic research tools and popular materials for education and entertainment, while the neighborhood branches (Angelou Northeast and Linwood Park) offer mostly popular fiction and media titles in their limited spaces. Wichita Central Library
The Wichita Central Library is a public library building in Downtown Wichita, Kansas. It operated from 1967 to 2018, replacing the Wichita City Carnegie Library Building and replaced by the Wichita Public Library system's Advanced Learning Library. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. The library is the first Brutalist-style building constructed in Kansas, and the first of the style in the state nominated to the National Register. Attributes The library building was designed in the Brutalist style by Schaefer Schirmer & Eflin Architects, predecessor to Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey. It was their breakthrough project, and the firm quickly became the most revered architects in Kansas. In the history of printing, an incunable or incunabulum (plural incunables or incunabula, respectively), is a book, pamphlet, or broadside that was printed in the earliest stages of printing in Europe, up to the year 1500. Exploration Place
Exploration Place is a science museum located on the west side of the Arkansas River in the Delano neighborhood of Wichita, Kansas, United States. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit institution. History During the 1980s, a plan to consolidate the city-owned Wichita Omnisphere and Science Center and the Children's Museum of Wichita was proposed. In 1992, a capital funds campaign was launched, and with an endowment from Velma Lunt Wallace, funds from the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County, and other donations, the museum opened in the spring of 2000. The museum is supported by admissions, membership dues, Sedgwick County government, and other public support and voluntary contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.
