Line 1 (Metrovalencia)
Line 1 is the oldest rail service in Metrovalencia, in Valencia, Spain. The line opened in 1988 and has 40 stations with a total track length of . This makes Line 1 the longest line of the Metrovalencia, almost two times longer than Line 2 (Metrovalencia), Line 2. The 1 operates during the day, stopping at the most important stations between Bétera station and Castelló station, specially the ones in the List of metropolitan areas in Spain, metropolitan area. For most stops outside the metropolitan area, passengers must request stop before alighting. On July 3, 2006, an 2006 Valencia metro accident, accident occurred on this line, between Jesús (Metrovalencia), Jesús and Plaça d'Espanya station. 43 people were killed. Bétera Station
Bétera () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Camp de Túria in the Valencian Community, Spain. With 23.647 inhabitants, it is the second most populous town in the Camp de Túria shire (INE 2018), in the second zone of the Valencia metropolitan area. Geography Bétera is situated on the southern slopes of the Serra Calderona, 15 km from Valencia and 23 km from the Mediterranean Sea on the border with the Valencian "market garden", L'Horta. Jesús (Metrovalencia)
Jesús is a station in the Metrovalencia network in the La Raiosa area of Valencia. It is served by Line 1 (Metrovalencia), line 1, Line 2 (Metrovalencia), line 2 and Line 7 (Metrovalencia), line 7. The station was opened on 8 October 1988, when Metrovalencia was created. On 3 July 2006, a Valencia Metro derailment, serious crash, which killed 43 people, occurred between the station and Plaça d'Espanya station. On 12 December 2010, the station was renamed Joaquín Sorolla, after Joaquín Sorolla, the painter and to reflect its proximity to the AVE, high speed train station Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla railway station, Joaquín Sorolla which opened a week after the name change. The name change was opposed by opposition political parties and residents groups, who considered it an attempt to forget the tragedy. 2006 Valencia Metro Accident
The Valencia Metro derailment occurred in Valencia, Spain's third largest city, on 3 July 2006 at 1 p.m. CEST (1100 UTC) between Jesús and Plaça d'Espanya stations on the Line 1 of the Metrovalencia mass transit system. At least 43 people were killed and more than ten were seriously injured. ''El País'' reports that Valencian forensic scientists have identified all but one of the victims — a woman whose family has not claimed her. Twenty-one of the victims were from Torrent, a locality seven kilometres from Valencia and the train's destination. Five more victims were from the city of Valencia itself, and two were from Paiporta, which is also nearby. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which occurred at a curve just outside Jesús station. However, data from the train's black box showed that the train's speed at the derailment point was 80 km/h (50 mph), which means it was travelling at twice the normal 40 km/h speed for this curve. List Of Metropolitan Areas In Spain
This is a list of the largest metropolitan areas in Spain by population. Estimates are from the following sources: * the "Functional Urban Areas" (FUAs) of the Study on Urban Functions of the European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON, 2007) * the "Larger Urban Zone" (LUZs) of Urban Audit project (2004), supported by the European Union. Line 2 (Metrovalencia)
Line 2 of Metrovalencia opened on March 6, 2015 in the city of Valencia, Spain. The line, which featured no new stations, was created as part of a restructuring of public transport in the city. It replaced the branch of Line 1 (Metrovalencia), Line 1 which ran from Llíria to Torrent, Valencia, Torrent. History The original line 2 of Metrovalencia was opened with the rest of the network in 1988 and ran from Llíria to Castelló de la Ribera, Villanueva de Castellón. On 16 September 1999, line 2 ceased to exist when it was merged into line 1. In the 2000s, a new line 2 was planned, to run from Tavernes Blanques to Valencia's Natzaret district. Metrovalencia
Metrovalencia is an urban rail system serving a large part of the metropolitan area of Valencia. The network is a modern amalgamation of former FEVE narrow gauge electric operated suburban railways. It is a large suburban network that crosses the city of Valencia, with all trains continuing out to the suburbs. It also has destinations on lines that make it more closely resemble commuter trains. The unique system combines light railway, metro and several tram operations north of the Túria riverbed park with line 4. Trains of lines 1, 3, 5 and 9 have automatic train operation (ATO) in 25.3 kilometers of underground system. Tram lines 4, 6, 8 and 10 are operated by modern trams.
