Lindsay Gordon
Air Vice-Marshal James Lindsay Gordon DFC (11 December 1892 – 3 March 1940) was a leading figure in the pre-World War II Royal Canadian Air Force and a pilot in the Royal Naval Air Service during World War I. Career James Lindsay Gordon was born on 11 December 1892 in Montreal, Quebec the son of Edward Percy Gordon and his wife Helen Lindsay. The young Gordon was educated at Montreal High School and McGill University. In 1918, while a member of the Royal Air Force, Gordon was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His citation was as follows: From 1922 to 1924 Gordon was the first Director of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Air Marshal George Owen Johnson CB, MC (January 24, 1896 – March 28, 1980) was a Canadian aviator, World War I Flying Ace and a senior commander in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Military career World War I service Born in Woodstock, Ontario in 1896, George Owen Johnson initially served as a subaltern with the Corps of School Cadet Instructors (CSCI) (now known as Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC)) from 1913 to 1916. He was accepted for the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) in Canada, but transferred to the Royal Flying Corps before going overseas in May 1917. Air Marshal Albert Abraham Lawson Cuffe (2 May 1895 – 24 March 1969) was a Canadian air force officer who was briefly Director of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Career Cuffe enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914 and, having joined the Royal Flying Corps, served in World War I. After the War he became an instructor at Camp Borden. James Stanley Scott
Air Commodore James Stanley Scott (18 February 1889 – 19 July 1975) was a leading figure in the pre-World War II Royal Canadian Air Force and a Royal Flying Corps officer during World War I. Career Scott was born in Roberval, Quebec in 1889 and graduated from Quebec High School. In March 1916 Scott was seconded from the Canadian Artillery to the Royal Flying Corps. Only four months later in July 1916, while serving as a lieutenant, Scott was awarded the Military Cross for attacking a train well behind the German lines even though his aircraft was very badly damaged by enemy fire. He transferred to the Royal Air Force in 1918 and after the Armistice he was awarded the Air Force Cross. After the War Scott returned to Canada, and after promotion to wing commander, he served as the Officer Commanding the Canadian Air Force from 1921 to 1922.
