Linda Kirton
Linda Kirton (born March 10, 1948) is a Canadian curling official from Abbotsford, British Columbia. She recited the Official's Oath at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics, alongside Hervé Lord for the Athletes' Oath. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Hervé Lord
Hervé Lord (born March 3, 1958) is a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. He was born in Saint-Pamphile, Quebec, Canada. In the Paralympic Games, Lord has won numerous medals as a member of the Canadian team including bronze (1994), silver (1998) and gold (2006). He also competed with teams which finished in fourth place in 2002 and 2010. Lord took the athletes' oath on behalf of all competitors at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver. Canadian Mixed Curling Championship
The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is the national curling championship for mixed curling in Canada. The winners of the tournament will represent Canada at the World Mixed Curling Championship. In mixed curling, the positions on a team must alternate between men and women. If a man throws last rocks, which is usually the case, the women must throw lead rocks and third rocks, while the other male member of the team throws second rocks. In 2004, Shannon Kleibrink became the only woman to skip a team and win a Canadian Mixed championship.
