Linda Johnson (politician)
Linda Johnson (born c. 1959) is a Canadian politician who was an elected member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the electoral district of Calgary-Glenmore, from 2012 to 2015. Her interest in politics began during her high school days when she became active with the Progressive Conservative party. Her first involvement was as a volunteer for former MLA Dennis Anderson. She worked in Ottawa as an assistant to Harvie Andre, MP for Calgary-Centre. She returned to Calgary becoming constituency assistant for Jim Hawkes, MP for Calgary-West. Harvie Andre
Harvie Andre, (July 27, 1940 – October 21, 2012) was a Canadian engineer, businessman, politician and federal Cabinet minister. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 27, 1940, Andre was educated at the University of Alberta (Chemical ’62, PhD Chemical ’66) and pursued part of his postgraduate studies at the California Institute of Technology before becoming a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Calgary from 1966 to 1972. In the 1972 general election he won a seat in the House of Commons of Canada, where he served as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Calgary Centre for twenty-one years. In opposition, Andre was a vocal opponent of Petro-Canada and the National Energy Program. He also served as the defence critic. He was appointed to the Cabinet after the 1984 election brought the Tories to power under Brian Mulroney. Jeromy Farkas
Jeromy Farkas is a Canadian fundraiser, filmmaker, athlete, columnist, and former politician. He was elected to Calgary City Council in the 2017 municipal election to represent Ward 11 for a four-year term. Farkas is the first and only Calgary City Councillor known to have declined the municipal pension and transition allowance. Following his term, the Canadian Taxpayer's Federation estimated that these rejected entitlements saved Calgarian taxpayers $308,234. Jim Hawkes
Frederick James Hawkes (June 21, 1934 – May 9, 2019) was a Canadian politician. He was Member of Parliament for Calgary West from 1979 until 1993. Early life and education Hawkes was born in Calgary, Alberta. He studied at Sir George Williams College (now Concordia University), obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. degree in 1957. Hawkes returned to academia after several years to study psychology, earning an Master of Science, M.Sc. degree in this field from the University of Calgary in 1968, and a Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. degree in experimental psychology from Colorado State University in 1970.
