Limassol District
Limassol District () or Lemesos ( el, Λεμεσός) is one of the six districts of Cyprus. , it had a population of 239,842, 77% of which was urban. Its main city is Limassol. Part of the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia forms an enclave on the Akrotiri Peninsula, under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom. History The buried ancient city of Amathus is from Limassol. Archaeological excavations have unearthed ruins of the Byzantine period and a tomb of the 7th century BC. The ancient Kolossi Castle, which is located to the west of Limassol, reflects the fall of Acre and history of the Templars and their confiscated property allotted to the Limassol District for cultivation of wine and sugarcane. Kouris River
Kouris River (Greek Κούρης; Turkish Kuris) is a waterway in Cyprus. Measuring in length, it originates on the south part of the Troodos Mountains, traverses Limassol District, and reaches the sea at Kourion. Not much of the river exists in the lower reaches of its course after the building of the Kouris Dam in the 1980s. This had to effect of enlarging the river's northern basin. Erimi is situated on the river's eastern side, while Kantou is on the western portion. Episkopi, built atop Kourion, is situated near the river's western bank. Governor's Beach, Limassol
The Governor's Beach ( el, Ακτή του Κυβερνήτη) is located partly in the Larnaca and in the Limassol region. It is a 2 km shoreline, with sandy beaches, deep crystal waters and a blue flag waving. The green sea turtle (''Chelonia mydas''), also known as the green turtle, black (sea) turtle or Pacific green turtle, is a species of large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in the genus ''Chelonia''. Its range extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas around the world, with two distinct populations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but it is also found in the Indian Ocean. Pissouri
Pissouri is a village located in Limassol’s district, Cyprus (thirty kilometres westwards of Limassol’s centre), between Limassol and Paphos. Pissouri’s administrative area is the third biggest in Limassol District. The main settlement of Pissouri is situated about three kilometres away from the bay named Cape Aspro, and is built on the side of a green hill. The settlement is placed in the middle of Pissouri’s territory. Now they are two distinct communities, Pissouri Village Area and Pissouri Bay Area. The total permanent population is said to reach around 1100 people, about half of whom are Cypriots, the rest foreigners, mainly British, residents and visitors.
