Lilong Assembly Constituency
Lilong Legislative Assembly constituency is one of the 60 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Manipur state in India. It is part of Thoubal district. Extent Lilong is the 30th among 60 constituencies of Manipur. Muhammad Abdul Nasir
Muhammad Abdul Nasir is an Indian politician and former member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly representing Lilong. He had served as the Minister of Agriculture in the Okram Ibobi Singh cabinet. Political career Nasir was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2017 as a candidate of Lilong as a candidate of the Indian National Congress. In 2018, he faced difficulty with constructing his house in Nagaram village where the local tribal people do not sell land to outsiders and wanted to halt the construction of his house. Nasir resigned in 2020 along with five other politicians of Indian National Congress. He defected to Janata Dal (United). Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were held in February 2000, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Manipur, India. The Manipur State Congress Party won the most seats as well as the popular vote, and Wahengbam Nipamacha Singh was re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur. 2020 Manipur Legislative Assembly By-elections
By-elections for Five state assembly constituencies were held in Manipur on 7 November 2020. Background Thirteen seats of the Manipur Legislative Assembly fell vacant after disqualification and mass resignation of Congress MLAs after which thirteen seats fell vacant. On 10 November 2020, the election of one of these disqualified MLAs (Yengkhom Surchandra Singh, from the Kakching constituency) was declared null and void by the Manipur High Court; as a result, the BJP candidate in that election, who had come in second place, replaced Singh as MLA, so that the number of vacant seats went down to 12. 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election
A Legislative Assembly election was held in Manipur on 4 March and 8 March 2017 to elect the 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, as the term of the previous Assembly was to end on 18 March 2017. Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines were used along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in four assembly constituencies in Manipur.
