Ligue 1 (Guinea)
The Ligue 1 is the top tier men's basketball league in Guinea. The defending champion is SLAC, which won its sixth title in 2021. Most games of the league are played in the Palais des Sports next to the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry. History Since 2021, the league has not been organised because of a dispute between the Guinean Basketball Federation (FGBB) and Guinea's Ministry of Sport. In February 2023, President of the FGBB Sakoba Keita announced his plans to professionalize the league by allowing teams to have a corporate status and by introducing a minimum salary for players. In October 2023, instead of organising a league, the federation organised a qualification tournament to decide the country's representative in the Road to BAL. SLAC won the tournament. SLAC (basketball Club)
Seydou Legacy Athlétique Club, commonly known as SLAC, is a Guinean basketball team from Conakry. The team plays in the Ligue 1, as well as in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) as of the 2022 season. SLAC has won the Ligue 1 championship six times in history. SLAC plays its home games in the Palais de Sports de Stade du 28 Septembre, located next to the multi-purpose stadium. History In March 2018, SLAC made its debut in the FIBA Africa Basketball League, the top pan-African league. On 1 March 2018, SLAC played its first game ever at an African main tournament, losing 80–65 to JS Kairouan. In 2019, SLAC won its fourth domestic championship after beating BACK in the finals. Stade Du 28 Septembre
Stade du 28 Septembre is a multi-purpose stadium in Conakry, Guinea. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 people. Road To BAL
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Semi-finals and finals are played to determine the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Format The national champions of each national federation (associated with FIBA Africa) can sign up for the BAL qualifiers. In the inaugural edition, a total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams. 2021 BAL Season
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Initially the league planned to play in six venues in six countries; however, due to the pandemic the season was held in a bio-secure bubble in Kigali, Rwanda. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. 2022 BAL Playoffs
The 2022 BAL Playoffs was the second edition of the playoffs of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and was the concluding tournament of the 2022 BAL season. The playoffs began on 21 May 2022 and ended on 28 May 2022 with the Finals. For a second consecutive season, all playoffs games were played at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. 2023 BAL Season
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore.
