Light It Up (soundtrack)
''Music From and Inspired by Light It Up the Movie'' is the original soundtrack album to Craig Bolotin's 1999 drama film '' Light It Up''. It was released on November 9, 1999 through Yab Yum/Elektra Records and consisted mainly of hip hop and R&B music. Executively produced by Michael McQuarn and Tracey Edmonds, the album features contributions from 112, Amil, AZ, Beanie Sigel, Beverly Crowder, Blaze Da Tyrant, DMX, Fredro Starr, Ja Rule, Jon B., Master P, *NSYNC, Outkast, Shya, Slimm Calhoun and Solé. The soundtrack was a huge success, peaking at #19 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and featured one charting single, "How Many Wanna". On December 6, 1999, the soundtrack was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Jonathan David Buck (born November 11, 1974) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. His debut album, ''Bonafide'' (1995), went platinum. Early life Born in Providence, Rhode Island, United States and raised in Altadena, California, Buck comes from a musical family; with his father David, a professor of music, his mother Linda, a concert pianist and his siblings Deborah, a violinist and his brother Kevin, a cellist. His mother is Jewish and his father is Puerto Rican. In 1992, Jon B. was shopping demos when he caught the attention of Tracey Edmonds, then-president and CEO of Yab-Yum Records. Waiting In Vain
"Waiting in Vain" is a song written by reggae musician Bob Marley and recorded by Bob Marley & The Wailers, for his 1977 album '' Exodus''. Released as a single, it hit number twenty-seven in the UK Singles Chart. The single was one of only a few of Marley's Island singles to feature a non-album B-Side, this being the song "Roots", an outtake from the ''Rastaman Vibration'' sessions. This later appeared on the compilation '' Rebel Music'' and on '' Exodus (Deluxe Edition)''. The 1981 reissue of Waiting in Vain featured a megamix called ''Marley Mix Up Medley'' instead. A rare 19-minute long acoustic version is available on YouTube. Michael Lawrence Tyler (born September 22, 1970), better known by his stage name Mystikal, is an American rapper. Early life and education Tyler grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana's 12th Ward. His father, who ran a small neighborhood store, died when Tyler was seven. He attended Cohen High School and afterward joined the United States Army as a combat engineer. Corey Miller (born March 9, 1971), better known by his stage name C-Murder, is an American rapper and songwriter. He initially gained fame in the mid-1990s as a part of his brother Master P's label No Limit Records, primarily as a member of the label's supergroup, TRU. Miller went on to release several solo albums of his own through the label, including 1998's platinum '' Life or Death''. C-Murder has released nine albums altogether on six different labels, No Limit Records, TRU Records, Koch Records, Asylum Records, RBC Records, and Venti Uno. In 2002, Miller was arrested in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas, and was sentenced to life in prison on August 14, 2009. Vyshonn King Miller (born June 18, 1975), better known by his stage name Silkk the Shocker, is an American rapper and actor. He originally went under the stage name Silkk, but later adopted Silkk the Shocker after the release of his first album. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. The chart debuted as Hot R&B LPs in the issue dated January 30, 1965 in an effort by the magazine to further expand into the field of rhythm and blues music.
