Light Commando Battalions (LCBs)
The Light Commando Battalions (LCB) are commando units of the Pakistan Army, tasked with special operations and counter-terrorism. Each battalion is affiliated with but not part of an Army infantry regiment. The LCB (Punjab) took part in defending military bases, which were attacked by militants on 15th August 2014. On 15 April 2015, the LCB (Punjab) held an open day for select members of the public to let them see the work of the unit, as part of a public awareness campaign. A company from Light Commando Battalion (Punjab) was allocated to the security measures for the 2021 tour by the New Zealand cricket team before it was cancelled. In June 2017, 2 LCB (Baloch) participated in a raid, with other units, on a suspected militant base in Mastung, Balochistan. 2014 Quetta Airbase Attack
The 2014 Quetta airbase attack occurred on 15 August 2014, when approximately 13 Tehrik-i-Taliban militants attempted to storm two airbases of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force; PAF Base Samungli and Khalid Airbase, both located in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. The attack was largely unsuccessful as Pakistani security forces foiled the attempt following a major armed engagement between the two sides which resulted in the deaths of 12 militants, while 12 people were injured, including one attacker and 11 security personnel. New Zealand Cricket Team In Pakistan In 2021β22
The New Zealand cricket team toured Pakistan in September and October 2021, and were scheduled to play three One Day International (ODI) and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It was New Zealand's first tour of Pakistan since 2003. However, on the morning of the first ODI match, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) raised a security alert with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistan Government, which resulted in the entire tour being called off.
