Liga Veneta Serenissima
Liga Veneta Serenissima (Most Serene Venetian League, LVS) was a Venetian nationalism, Venetist List of political parties in Veneto, political party active in Veneto. LFS was founded in by splinters from Liga Veneta (LV) led by Achille Tramarin. Tramarin was first elected national secretary of Liga Veneta in 1980 and in the 1983 Italian general election, 1983 regional election he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies. Soon after the election Franco Rocchetta, who was not elected, forced Tramarin to resign as party secretary. When Tramarin refused to do so, Rocchetta organized a revolt and replaced him with Marilena Marin. Although the expulsion of Tramarin and Senator Graziano Girardi from the party meant its disappearance from the Parliament of Italy, Liga Veneta did well in the 1985 Venetian regional election, 1985 regional election (3.7% of the vote and two regional councillors elected), while LVS was relegated to a mere 0.2% of the vote. Venetian Nationalism
Venetian nationalism (also Venetism, from the Venetian/Italian name, ''venetismo'') is a nationalist, but primarily regionalist, political movement active mostly in Veneto, Italy, as well as in other parts of the former Republic of Venice. Generally speaking, Venetists promote the distinct Venetian identity and the rediscovery of the Republic of Venice's heritage, traditions, culture, and language and/or demand more autonomy or even independence for Veneto from Italy. According to journalist Paolo Possamai, Venetism is "the strain of Veneto and Venetians toward the recognition of their identity and autonomy". Venetism is a broad movement, which definitely includes Venetist parties, notably Liga Veneta, but also encompasses people from several political parties. Graziano Girardi (Farra di Soligo, 30 May 1940) is an Italian Venetist politician. An early member of Liga Veneta Liga Veneta ( vec, Łiga Vèneta; en, Venetian League; abbr. Raixe Venete
Raixe Venete (translation: Venetian Roots) is a Venetian nationalism, Venetist cultural association. Founded in 2002, Raixe Venete is aimed at "keeping the Venetian identity alive through the promotion, the protection and the circulation of the millennial Venetian culture, in all its forms, from history to language, from tradition to music". The association publishes a journal in Venetian language, Venetian and has connections with kin organisations and separatism, separatists from all over Europe, especially from the Basque Country (greater region), Basque Country and Catalonia. Liga Veneta Repubblica
Liga Veneta Repubblica (''Łiga Vèneta Republica'', Venetian Republic League, LVR) is a Venetist political party in Veneto, Italy. The party maintains a mildly separatist position and campaigns for the self-government of Veneto. The party's founder and long-time leader is Fabrizio Comencini. The LVR emerged in 1998 as a split from Liga Veneta (LV), the "national section" of Lega Nord in Veneto. Originally named Liga Veneta Repubblica, it changed its name to Veneti d'Europa (after the merger with Future Veneto in 2000) and Liga Fronte Veneto (after the merger with Fronte Marco Polo in 2001). The Union of the Venetian People (''Union del Popoło Vèneto'', UPV) was a Venetist political party active in Veneto. History The party was founded in 1987 by splinters from Liga Veneta led by Ettore Beggiato and Gianni Butturini. In the 1990 regional election UPV won 1.9% of the vote (compared to the 5.9% of Liga Veneta) and Beggiato was re-elected to the Regional Council of Veneto. Occasionally the party surpassed Liga Veneta: in 1991 local elections UPV gained 3.5% of the vote against 2.6% of Liga Veneta. Ettore Beggiato
Ettore Beggiato (born 4 August 1954) is an Italian historian and politician. As member of several Venetist political parties (Liga Veneta 1980–1987, Union of the Venetian People 1987–1995, Liga Veneta–Lega Nord 1995–1998, Liga Veneta Repubblica/Veneti d'Europa/Liga Fronte Veneto 1998–2004), he was member of the Regional Council of Veneto from 1985 to 2000. He was secretary of Liga Fronte Veneto from 2002 to 2004, when he joined the North-East Project, party of which he is currently member. Beggiato is the author of many books about the history and the culture of Veneto such as ''1866: The great swindle'', about the referendum with which Veneto was united with Italy. 1985 Venetian Regional Election
The Venetian regional election of 1985 took place on 12 May 1985. Events Christian Democracy was by far the largest party, but for the first time since 1970 it was not able to secure an outright majority. Marilena Marin
Marilena Marin (born 24 July 1947) is an Italian Venetist politician. A native of Conegliano, she was a founding member of Liga Veneta in 1978–1980 and, after a party purge in 1984, she was elected national secretary of the party replacing Achille Tramarin. In 1987 she married with Franco Rocchetta, the party's practical leader and contributed to the birth of Lega Nord in 1991. In June 1994 she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), but only one month later she was replaced by Fabrizio Comencini as national secretary during a party congress. In September she left the party and in December joined the Federalists and Liberal Democrats. Franco Rocchetta
Franco Rocchetta (born Venice, 12 April 1947) is an Italian politician, entrepreneur, philologist and history populariser, who is usually described as the "father" of present-day Venetian nationalism and independentism. Early life and political career Since his university years, Rocchetta has been a Venetist, a Europeanist, and a passionate of historical, archeological and linguistic studies, and, as such, he was active in Radical and green movements. Before coming of age, he was investigated for separatist writings on walls and for his solidarity with South Tyrolean activists. During the 1960s he was a member of the Italian Republican Party and the Italian Communist Party, which he left in order to join ''Lotta Continua'' in 1969.
