Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps
The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band ( sv, Livgardets dragonmusikkår, LDK) is one of three professional military bands in the Swedish Armed Forces. The band traces its ancestry back to the 1500s when King Gustav Vasa raised his first regiment of horse. Today LDK is one of few mounted bands in the world. The band rides at the head of the Life Guards through Stockholm when mounting the King's Guard and the parade is considered one of Sweden's main tourist attractions. This band reports as part of the Swedish Armed Forces Music Corps, which is responsible for the formation and maintenance of Swedish military bands Establishment The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band is stationed in the Cavalry Barracks in Stockholm, where the Life Guards' 80 horses are stabled. The Swedish Armed Forces ( sv, Försvarsmakten, "the Defense Force") is the government agency that forms the armed forces of Sweden, tasked with the defense of the country as well as with promoting Sweden's wider interests, supporting international peacekeeping, and providing humanitarian aid. Gustav I Of Sweden
Gustav I, born Gustav Eriksson of the Vasa noble family and later known as Gustav Vasa (12 May 1496 – 29 September 1560), was King of Sweden from 1523 until his death in 1560, previously self-recognised Protector of the Realm ('' Riksföreståndare'') from 1521, during the ongoing Swedish War of Liberation against King Christian II of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Gustav rose to lead the rebel movement following the Stockholm Bloodbath, where his father was executed. Gustav's election as king on 6 June 1523 and his triumphant entry into Stockholm eleven days later marked Sweden's final secession from the Kalmar Union. Life Guards (Sweden)
The Life Guards ( sv, Livgardet, designation LG) is a combined Swedish Army cavalry/infantry regiment. Its responsibilities include the defence of Stockholm as well as provision of the royal guard of honour for the King of Sweden and the Stockholm Palace. With traditions dating from 1521, the regiment is one of the oldest military units in continuous operational existence in the world. It was established in its present form in July 2000, following a merger of the Svea Life Guards and the Life Guard Dragoons. Headquarters are mainly located in Brunna north of Kungsängen in Upplands-Bro Municipality and at the "Cavalry Barracks 1" in central Stockholm. Stockholm Palace or the Royal Palace ( sv, Stockholms slott or ) is the official residence and major royal palace of the Swedish monarch (King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia use Drottningholm Palace as their usual residence). Stockholm Palace is on Stadsholmen, in Gamla stan in the capital, Stockholm. It neighbours the Riksdag building. Life Regiment of Horse ( sv, Livregementet till häst, K 1) was a Swedish Army cavalry based in Stockholm. In was formed in 1928 through a merger of the Life Guards of Horse and the Life Regiment Dragoons. The unit was disbanded in 1949 and was amalgamated into the Life Guards Squadron. History The Royal Life Regiment of Horse was formed in 1928 through a merger of the Life Guards of Horse and the Life Regiment Dragoons in accordance with the Defence Act of 1925. The newly formed regiment was organized with a regimental staff and four squadrons and was stationed at the Life Guards of Horse' barracks at Sturevägen (present-day Lidingövägen) in Stockholm. Prior to the Defence Act of 1948, the 1945 Defence Committee proposed that the army be reduced by two cavalry regiments, including the Life Regiment of Horse.
