Lien Ying Chow
Lien Ying Chow, George, (; 2 August 1906 - 6 August 2004) was a Singaporean businessperson. He is one of the founders of Overseas Chinese Union Bank (later known as Overseas Union Bank), which merged with United Overseas Bank in 2001. Early life Lien was born on 2 August 1906 in the village of Dabu, Guangdong, China, becoming an orphan at the age of ten. Around the age of fourteen, Lien immigrated to Singapore, with little money to spare. In 1928, some eight years after reaching Singapore, Lien founded his own trading company, Wah Hin and Company, using his savings. Career Lien was given the role of president of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce in 1941. Also a food and drink supplier to the British Army, he fled by boat to Australia, a few days before the Japanese occupation of Singapore. Singapore's Mandarin Hotel belonged to him. S Rajaratnam
Sinnathamby Rajaratnam ( ta, சின்னத்தம்பி ராஜரத்னம்; 25 February 1915 – 22 February 2006), better known as S. Rajaratnam, was a Singaporean politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 1980 and 1985. Rajaratnam is widely recognized as one of the founding fathers of Singapore. He was also one of the founders of the People's Action Party (PAP), which has governed the country continuously since independence. Rajaratnam was one of the pioneering leaders of independent Singapore as it achieved self-governance in 1959 and later independence in 1965. Hon Sui Sen
Benedict Hon Sui Sen (; 16 April 1916 – 14 October 1983) was a Singaporean politician who served as Minister for Finance between 1970 and 1983. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Havelock between 1970 and 1983. Early life Hon was born in a Hakka Chinese family on 16 April 1916 in Penang in the British Straits Settlements. Educated at Saint Xavier's Institution, he earned the top place in the 1932 Senior Cambridge Certificate Examination. Yusof Ishak
Yusof bin Ishak (12 August 191023 November 1970) was a Singaporean politician and journalist who served as the first president of Singapore from 1965 until his death in 1970. Prior to becoming head of state, Yusof was a well-known journalist who co-founded ''Utusan Melayu'', a daily newspaper that was in circulation until 9 October 2019. He started journalism after graduating from Raffles Institution in 1929, and joined ''Warta Malaya'', a well-known Malay newspaper company, in 1932. He left the company in 1938 and co-founded ''Utusan Melayu''. Yusof held many appointments within the Singapore Government.
