Liedekerke () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. On January 1, 2006 Liedekerke had a total population of 11,920. It is also situated in the Pajottenland.The total area is 10.08 km² which results in a population density of 1,183 inhabitants per km². Liedekerke means "church on the little hill." History From the Carolingian era until the 11th century, Liedekerke was a part of the Shire of Brabant. Around 1056–1059, Baldwin V, Count of Flanders acquired the northwestern part of the village as a fief from the German emperor. This county ranged from the Scheldt and Dender rivers and also encompassed several other villages along the Dender, among which was Liedekerke. The name "''Liekercke''", which means "''church on the little hill''", was first drawn up as part of the county in 1092. Karl Heeremans
Karl Heeremans (1 June 1937 – 12 April 2010) was an artist-painter with very personal norms of colours and forms. Revolutions in contemporary art from Picasso to Kandinsky were considered to be over, and his modern approach marked late 20th-century art. His style can be described as a form of magic surrealism with cubist base and a delicate colourscale. Karl Heeremans was born in Liedekerke, Belgium. He had private drawing and painting lessons, followed by Greek-Latin High School (1945–1955). In 1957 he started his studies in the history of the arts and musicology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, completing his studies at the Academy of Düsseldorf, Germany with Ewald Mataré as professor(1959). He then moved to Paris to the atelier of Anthoni Clavé, had friendships with Guiramand, Aïzpiri, Tamayo and met Picasso and Chagall (1960). Pajottenland
The Pajottenland (in English occasionally Payottenland) is a distinct region within the Flemish Brabant province and the south-western part of the Brussels Region of Belgium. The region is located west-southwest of Brussels. The Pajottenland is predominantly farmland, with occasional gently rolling hills, and lies mostly between the rivers Dender and Zenne / Senne. The area has historically provided food and drink for the citizens of Brussels, especially Lambic beers, which are only produced here and in the Zenne valley where Brussels is. Maximilien II De Hénin, 5th Count Of Bossu
Maximilien II de Hénin, 5th Count of Bossu (1580-1625) was a noble lord. Family Maxillien was the son of Jacques de Hénin, Marquess of la Veere, brother of Maximilien de Hénin, 3rd Count of Bossu and Marie of Hanaert, Baronnes of Liedekercke. He became the brother-in-law of Íñigo de Borja and Luis de Velasco y Velasco, 2nd Count of Salazar. In 1605 he married Alexandrin-Françoise of Gavre, daughter of Charles of Gavre, count of Frezin. Halle-Vilvoorde Administrative Arrondissement
The Halle-Vilvoorde Arrondissement () is one of the two administrative arrondissements in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. It almost completely surrounds the Brussels-Capital Region and lies to the west of the other arrondissement in the province, the Leuven Arrondissement. Unlike the Arrondissement of Leuven, it is not a judicial arrondissement; however since the sixth Belgian state reform in 2012–14, it has its own public prosecutor's service. Ninove () is a city and municipality located in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is situated on the river Dender, and is part of the Denderstreek. Roosdaal () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Borchtlombeek, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Lombeek, Pamel and Strijtem. It is also situated in the Pajottenland. On January 1, 2016, Roosdaal had a total population of 11,494. The total area is 21.69 km² which gives a population density of 530 inhabitants per km². Roosdaal is well known in Flanders for its berries through its annual strawberry convention. Ternat
Ternat (; also french: Ternath, link=no) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the villages of Sint-Katherina-Lombeek, Ternat proper and Wambeek. It is also situated in the Pajottenland. On January 1, 2018 Ternat had a total population of 15.481. The total area is 24.48 km² which gives a population density of 597 inhabitants per km². The village of Ternat is the site of a medieval sandstone church and the 12th-century Kruikenburg Castle, extensively remodelled in the 17th century. Affligem
Affligem (; anciently written Afflighem) is a municipality located some west-north-west of Brussels in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, not far from the city of Aalst and the important railway junction of Denderleeuw. Affligem is situated in the Pajottenland. The municipality comprises the villages of Essene, Hekelgem and Teralfene (note that there is no village called Affligem proper). On 1 January 2006 it had 11,956 inhabitants. The total area is , giving a population density of 676 inhabitants per km². Historically, the village is best known for the Benedictine Affligem Abbey, founded in 1062. Flemish Brabant ( nl, Vlaams-Brabant ; french: Brabant flamand ) is a province of Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium.
