Denderstreek
The Denderstreek or Denderland is a region in Belgium. It is named after the river Dender. Though the river stretches over three provinces, Hainaut, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant, the region called after the river is situated in East Flanders. The Dutch word ''streek'' means region. Thus Denderstreek means the Dender Region. Most of the Denderstreek is part of the Scheldeland (Scheldtland), the rest is part of the Flemish Ardennes. Affligem
Affligem (; anciently written Afflighem) is a municipality located some west-north-west of Brussels in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, not far from the city of Aalst and the important railway junction of Denderleeuw. Affligem is situated in the Pajottenland. The municipality comprises the villages of Essene, Hekelgem and Teralfene (note that there is no village called Affligem proper). On 1 January 2006 it had 11,956 inhabitants. The total area is , giving a population density of 676 inhabitants per km². Historically, the village is best known for the Benedictine Affligem Abbey, founded in 1062. Liedekerke () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. On January 1, 2006 Liedekerke had a total population of 11,920. It is also situated in the Pajottenland.The total area is 10.08 km² which results in a population density of 1,183 inhabitants per km². Liedekerke means "church on the little hill." History From the Carolingian era until the 11th century, Liedekerke was a part of the Shire of Brabant. Around 1056–1059, Baldwin V, Count of Flanders acquired the northwestern part of the village as a fief from the German emperor.
