Libyan Ambassador To The United Nations
The permanent representative of the Libyan state to the United Nations is the leader of the Libyan delegation to the United Nations, and in charge of the ''Libyan'' ''Mission to the United Nations''. Libyan representatives to the UN hold the personal rank of ambassador. The Permanent Representative, currently Elmahdi S. Elmajerbi, is charged with representing the Libyan government in the United Nations and during almost all plenary meetings of the General Assembly, except in the rare situation in which a senior personnel of the Libyan government (such as the Libyan Foreign Secretary or the Libyan Head of State) is present. Mansour Rashid Kikhia (also spelled Mansur, ar, منصور الكيخيا; December 1931 – c. 1993) was the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs (1972–1973), Libyan Ambassador to the United Nations, Permanent Libyan Representative to the United Nations (1975–1980), and later an opposition figure to Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi, and human rights activist. Mohamed Yunus al-Menfi ( ar, محمد يونس المنفي; born 3 March 1976) is a Libyan diplomat and politician from Tobruk. On 5 February 2021, he was chosen as the president of the Libyan Presidential Council at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum. Previously, he had served as the Libyan Ambassador to Greece. He is a major figure on the Islamist side of the 2014 Libyan Conflict and founder of the LROR group which is considered "terrorist" by the internationally recognized Libyan parliament. Mahmood Suleiman Maghribi ( ar, محمود سليمان المغربي) (29 November 1935 – 17 July 2009) was the Prime Minister of Libya from 8 September 1969 to 16 January 1970. Biography Maghribi, who was born and raised in Haifa before moving to Syria in 1948. Maghribi worked within the ministry of education in Qatar while studying law at Damascus University before gaining his PhD in petroleum law at George Washington University in the United States in 1966.
