Liam Vrolijk is a Dutch chess grandmaster. Chess career In December 2018, Vrolijk tied for first place with GM Ottomar Ladva in the Groningen Chess Festival. Vrolijk lost the championship to Ladva on tiebreaks, though defeated GM Roeland Pruijssers in the final round. In April 2020, Vrolijk was defeated by Ahmed Adly in the Sunway Sitges International Online Chess Open, which was the first online Swiss tournament held under classical time controls. In February 2021, Vrolijk tied for 13th place with a score of 8.5/11 in the Titled Tuesday Blitz tournament. Capelle aan den IJssel (; en, Capelle on the IJssel) is a small city and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women. Ottomar Ladva (born 17 June 1997) is an Estonian chess player and grandmaster. He is a four-time Estonian Chess Champion (2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018). Chess career Ladva won the Estonian Junior Chess Championships (U18) in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Since 2006 he has participated in the European Junior Chess Championships and in European Union's Junior Chess Championships in different age groups. In the Estonian Chess Championship, he has won four gold (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018) and one silver (2014) medals. Ahmed Adly ( ar, أحمد عدلي, born 18 February 1987) is an Egyptian chess Grandmaster (chess), Grandmaster. As a chess prodigy, Adly acquired his International Master title in 2001 at the age of 14 at the U20 Championship of 2004. Adly then went on to earn his Grandmaster title in 2005, making him the first Egyptian and the youngest ever African to achieve this feat. Mustafa Yılmaz (born 5 November 1992) is a Turkish chess player who received the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM) in September 2012. He is a three-time Turkish Chess Champion. He earned the titles of FIDE Master (FM) in 2008 and International Master (IM) in 2009. He is a native of Mamak in Ankara. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024 was the 86th edition of the annual chess tournament held in Wijk aan Zee from 13–28 January 2024. The competition followed a similar format to the previous year's edition, taking place at the Dorpshuis De Moriaan in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, while round 9 of the Masters section was played at the AFAS Circustheater in The Hague, Netherlands as part of the competition's "Chess on Tour" event. Leon Luke Mendonca (born 13 March 2006) is an Indian chess grandmaster. He is the sixty-seventh Indian to qualify for the title of Grandmaster, which FIDE awarded him in January 2021. Chess career Mendonca became an International Master (IM) in 2019 at the age of 12 years, 11 months and 3 days. He got stuck in Eastern Europe due to COVID lockdowns in March 2020.
