Liam Langridge-Barker
Liam Langridge-Barker (born 28 November 1999) is a British professional basketball player who currently plays for the Worcester Wolves. College career Langridge-Barker played for the Three Rivers Academy in the Academy Basketball League. In 2017, the school announced a partnership with the Surrey Scorchers to become the club's new youth academy. As a result, Scorchers head coach Creon Raftopoulos also joined the team as assistant coach. Liam graduated from Three Rivers Academy in 2019, choosing to study for a Business degree at Plymouth Marjon University. Guard (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Over time, as more specialized roles developed, each of the guards and forwards came to be differentiated, and today each of the five positions are known by unique names, each of which has also been assigned a number: point guard (PG) or 1, the shooting guard (SG) or 2, the small forward (SF) or 3, the power forward (PF) or 4, and the center (C) or 5. Creon Raftopoulos
Creon Raftopoulos (born 17 October 1974) is a Zimbabwean professional basketball coach. Playing career Raftopoulos captained the Zimbabwe national team during his playing career. In 2001, he moved to England to trial for the Teesside Mohawks. He sustained an injury in the first scrimmage game which ended his playing career. Coaching career Early career After sustaining the injury, Raftopoulos took up a coaching position at the Middlesbrough Basketball Academy. He was made head coach a year later. Teesside Mohawks In 2006, he was named head coach of the Teesside Mohawks and immediately helped the team return to the English Basketball Division One having recently suffered relegation. British Basketball League
The British Basketball League (BBL) is a men's professional basketball league in Great Britain and represents the highest level of play in the countries. The league is contested by 10 teams from England and Scotland. There are no clubs however from Wales or Northern Ireland. The BBL runs three additional knockout competitions alongside the BBL Championship which are the BBL Cup, the BBL Trophy and the end-of-season BBL Play-offs. The BBL sits above the National Basketball League and the Scottish Basketball Championship which effectively form the second tier of British basketball. There is currently no automatic promotion or relegation between the English and Scottish leagues and the BBL because of the franchise system in use in the BBL although several clubs have been successful in making the step up from the EBL in recent years. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. The National Basketball League, or NBL for short, is a league competition representing semi-professional and amateur basketball clubs from England and Wales. It forms levels 2 to 4 on the British basketball pyramid, in line with the Scottish Basketball Championship, sitting directly below the top tier British Basketball League.
