Creon Raftopoulos
Creon Raftopoulos (born 17 October 1974) is a Zimbabwean professional basketball coach. Playing career Raftopoulos captained the Zimbabwe national team during his playing career. In 2001, he moved to England to trial for the Teesside Mohawks. He sustained an injury in the first scrimmage game which ended his playing career. Coaching career Early career After sustaining the injury, Raftopoulos took up a coaching position at the Middlesbrough Basketball Academy. He was made head coach a year later. Teesside Mohawks In 2006, he was named head coach of the Teesside Mohawks and immediately helped the team return to the English Basketball Division One having recently suffered relegation. Mersey Tigers
The Mersey Tigers were a professional basketball team based in the city of Liverpool, England. The club was established in 2007 as a start-up franchise of the British Basketball League, the country's elite competition. The Tigers started competing at the start of the 2007–08 season, and won the BBL Cup in their second season as well as finishing as runners-up in the league. In 2013 it was officially announced that the Tigers franchise had been withdrawn from the BBL due to financial difficulties that had plagued the club throughout the previous season, which resulted in the Tigers becoming the first ever BBL club to complete an entire season without a single victory. Caylin Raftopoulos
Caylin Raftopoulos (born 19 October 1992) is a British professional basketball player for the Surrey Scorchers in the British Basketball League. Early life Raftopoulous took part in the London Towers programme before playing youth basketball with the Spelthorne Atoms and London United-Richmond College. In 2010, he moved to the United States to attend Arlington Country Day High School and later transferred to Althoff Catholic High School. Professional career Raftopoulous began his professional career with the Surrey Heat, a team coached by his father, Creon Ratfopoulous. He played 35 times during the 2012–13 season and averaged 5.3 points per game. After relocating for university, he joined the Worcester Wolves in 2013. The 2017–18 BBL season was the 31st campaign of the British Basketball League since the league's establishment in 1987. The season featured 12 teams from across England and Scotland. The Leicester Riders became regular season champions for the third season in succession, winning 104–75 against Plymouth Raiders at the Plymouth Pavilions on 8 April 2018. The Riders then added the playoff title with an 81–60 win over the London Lions in the final. BBL Coach Of The Year Award
The British Basketball League Coach of the Year award is an annual award presented to head coaches in the British Basketball League, and has been awarded at the end of every campaign since the 1987–1988 season. The award is decided by a panel consisting of each of the league's head coaches who submit one vote each at the end of the regular season, and the coach with the most votes is presented with the award. Surrey Heat
The Surrey Scorchers are an English professional basketball team based in Guildford, Surrey, that compete in the British Basketball League. The team was established in 2005 as the Guildford Heat by fans of former British Basketball League team Thames Valley Tigers, who folded during the same year. Making an appearance in the ULEB Cup in 2007, the franchise was rebranded as the Surrey Heat in 2012. After the sale of the franchise by former owner Alison Reeve, the Heat were rebranded once again in September 2013 to become Surrey United. The British Basketball League Trophy, often shortened to the BBL Trophy, is an annual cup competition for British basketball teams organised by the United Kingdom's top professional league, the British Basketball League. The Newcastle Eagles are a professional basketball team based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Playing in the top-tier British Basketball League and holding the franchise for Tyne & Wear, they are the most successful team in the League's history.
