The LEVAN (Learning EVerything About ANything) is a visual processing search engine developed by computer scientists from Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Seattle and the University of Washington. Levan is a naturally occurring fructan present in many plants and microorganisms. This polymer is made up of fructose, a monosaccharide sugar, connected by 2,6 beta glycosidic linkages. Levan can have both branched and linear structures of relatively low molecular weight. Branched levan forms a very small, sphere-like structure with basal chains 9 units long. The 2,1 branching allows methyl ethers to form and create a spherical shape. The ends of levan also tend to contain a glucosyl residue. Branched levan tends to be more stable than the linear structure. However, the amount of branching and length of polymerization tends to vary among different species. The shortest levan is 6-kestose, a chain of two fructose molecules and a terminal glucose molecule. Discovery Levan was first discovered through research on nattō, a traditional Japanese dish. Fructan
A fructan is a polymer of fructose molecules. Fructans with a short chain length are known as fructooligosaccharides. Fructans can be found in over 12% of the angiosperms including both monocots and dicots such as agave, artichokes, asparagus, leeks, garlic, onions (including spring onions), yacón, jícama, barley and wheat. Fructans also appear in grass, with dietary implications for horses and other grazing animals (Equidae). The Levan Farm, also known as the Issac Levan Tract and Jacob Levan Farm, is an historic, American house and farm complex that is located in Exeter Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. History and architectural features This historic house was built in 1837, and is a two-story, five-bay by two-bay, stone dwelling that was designed in the Georgian style. It was built using fieldstone with light colored and red sandstone quoins. It has a later, -story rear addition. Also located on the property are a stone and wood frame bank barn, spring house, lime kilns, granary, corn crib, and wagon shed. Gourock
Gourock ( ; gd, Guireag ) is a town in the Inverclyde council area and formerly a burgh of the County of Renfrew in the west of Scotland. It was a seaside resort on the East shore of the upper Firth of Clyde. Its main function today is as a residential area, extending contiguously from Greenock, with a railway terminus and ferry services across the Clyde. Berat (; sq-definite, Berati) is the ninth most populous city of Albania and the seat of Berat County and Berat Municipality. Castle Levan
Castle Levan (also known as Levan Castle) is a fortified tower house in Levan area of Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland. A building had been on the site from the 14th century, but the present structure was substantially enlarged after 1547 and formed part of the Ardgowan Estates. In the 19th century a large mansion was built within a few metres of the ruined castle and was given the same name. The original castle was renovated in the 1980s. The castle has undergone further renovations in 2016 under its new owner, Kim Munro, who runs it as a bed & breakfast.
