Désiré Letort
Désiré Letort (29 January 1943 – 9 September 2012) was a French cyclist. His sporting career began with ACBB Paris. His career best finishes in the Tour de France were 17th in 1971, 9th in 1969 and 4th in 1967. Biography Letort was born in Corseul. He won the French national road race championship in 1967, but after the race failed the doping tests. Letort raced in eight Tours de France. He wore the yellow jersey in the 1969 Tour de France for one day after stage 5. Léon Letort
Léon Letort, (18 September 1889 – 10 December 1913) was a pioneer French aviator. He gained his pilot's license on 9 August 1910, flew his Blériot in exhibitions across France, and flew on military service in the Balkan Wars. In 1913 he set the world record for the greatest distance travelled non-stop, flying in 8 hours. He died during an attempt to win a prize for long-distance flight when he crash-landed at Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire outside Bordeaux. Early life Letort was born on 18 September 1889 in Pire-sur-Seiche, Brittany, the youngest of four brothers and four sisters from a wealthy family in the textile business. He was educated in Rennes at the School of Brothers of Christian Instruction at Parc du Thabor and the College of St. Martin. His main interest was in mechanical things, so on leaving school aged 18 he started in the automotive and aviation industry. Jacques Le Tort
Jacques Le Tort (c. 1651 – c. 1702) was a French-Canadian fur trapper, trader, explorer and entrepreneur who spent much of his life in the Province of Pennsylvania engaged in the fur trade. He collaborated with other French-Canadians living there at the time, including Peter Bisaillon and Martin Chartier, as well as the future mayor of Philadelphia, James Logan (statesman), James Logan. By the late 1690s he had become wealthy and somewhat notorious; the Provincial authorities had his wife arrested on suspicion of conspiring with the French to take control of Pennsylvania territory, although no charges were ever proven. He disappeared following a trip to England in 1702 and is presumed to have died at sea. His wife Anne Le Tort and his son James Le Tort took over his business after his death. James Le Tort (often spelled James Letort, c. 1675 – c. 1742) was a Pennsylvania fur trader and a ''coureur des bois A coureur des bois (; ) or coureur de bois (; plural: coureurs de(s) bois) was an independent entrepreneurial French-Canadian trader who travelled in New France and the interior of North America, usually to trade with First Nations peoples by e ...'' active in the early 18th century. He established trading posts at several remote Native American communities in Pennsylvania and Ohio and became fluent in the Delaware and Shawnee languages. During the 1720s he frequently served as an interpreter at councils and conferences between Native American leaders and the government of the Province of Pennsylvania. Louis-Michel Letort De Lorville
Louis-Michel Letort de Lorville (29 August 1773 – 17 June 1815) was a French general of the Napoleonic Wars. He was made a baron de l'Empire on 9 September 1810, général de brigade on 30 January 1813, and acted as aide de camp to Napoleon himself. He fought with distinction in the first French Revolutionary Wars and became, under the First French Empire, a major in the dragoons of the Imperial Guard. Life Volunteering in 1791, he fought at the battle of Jemappes (and Neerwinden). Wounded in Italy in 1799, he continued on a military career in Austria, then Prussia, Poland and Russia despite receiving a new wound at the battle of Jena. Distinguishing himself in 1808 at the battle of Burgos, his service in Russia (notably in the battle of Malojaroslawitz) won him promotion to général de brigade. LeTort Spring Run
The LeTort Spring Run is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed August 8, 2011 tributary of Conodoguinet Creek in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Located near Carlisle, its length between Pennsylvania Route 34 and Conodoguinet Creek is a designated Pennsylvania Scenic River. It is a well-known fly fishing stream where anglers fish for brown trout. Located along its banks are LeTort Park, owned by the Borough of Carlisle, and the LeTort Spring Run Nature Trail.
