Les Rudman
Major General Les Rudman was a General Officer in the South African Army from the infantry. Military career General Rudman was an honorary Special Forces Operator, Pathfinder and parachutist instructor. He was appointed to the post of Deputy Chief of the South African Army on 1 October 2011. He was awarded the ''Sword of Honour'' at the South African Military Academy in 1976. He retired at the end of 2014 and was succeeded by Maj Gen Lawrence Smith. He served at 31 Battalion as Company Commander, 32 Battalion with the Pathfinders and for this he was awarded the Pro Virtute Decoration, 1 Parachute Battalion and Brigade Commander 44 Parachute Brigade while still based in Wallmansthall. Edward McGill Alexander
Edward George McGill Alexander (born 31 March 1947) is a former South African Army officer. Alexander has participated in airborne exercises and conferences with the British Army, and has jumped with and been awarded parachute wings by the Chilean, British and ROC Armies. He has written many articles on military topics, some of which have been published internationally, including one by the US Army. He has also authored or co-authored three books. A frequent speaker at symposia and conferences on military matters, General Alexander delivered the 2006 ''Turner Lecture'' at the SA Military Academy and in the same year delivered a paper at a ''Military History Conference on Small Wars and Insurgencies'' in Canberra, Australia. Besides the degree from the University of Stellenbosch, he holds an Honours BA, an MA (cum laude) and a PhD in history from the University of South Africa. South African Army College
The South African Army College is a training unit of the South African Army. History Origin of military training in South Africa South African military training can be traced back to 1786 when the Militere Kweekskool was established by the Dutch East India Company to develop local cadets, but collapsed due to lack of funds. Under the Union of South Africa’s Defence Act of 1912, allowance was made for a formal South African Military College. Two branches were initially set up namely the General Branch or military school and the Musketry Branch or musketry school. Both branches were initially housed in Bloemfontein in the Free State. Brigadier General Krupert Eric Nel is a retired South African Army officer. Military career Brig Gen Nel joined the South African Defence Force at the School of Engineers in 1978 as a National Serviceman, where he later became an officer. In 1980 he completed the Special Forces Basic Training and was transferred to 4 Special Forces Regiment in Langebaan. In May 1985 he participated in the ill-fated incursion into Cabinda - Operation Argon - that resulted in two Special Forces operators being killed in action and a third being captured by MPLA forces. Solly Shoke
General Solly Zacharia Shoke, (born 15 August 1956) is a South African military commander. He joined uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the military wing of the African National Congress, in the 1970s, and served as a field commander fighting against the South African government in the 1980s. He transferred to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) when MK was incorporated into it in 1994, and served as Chief of the South African National Defence Force 2011 to 30 May 2021. Gilbert Ramano
Lieutenant General Gilbert Lebeko Ramano (born 7 July 1939) is a South African military commander. Career Ramano was born in Sophiatown. He completed his schooling at Madibane High School and worked as a senior clerk at the WNLA mines depot in Johannesburg from 1961 to 62. He left South Africa in 1962 to join the armed wing of the African National Congress, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK). He attended a number of military courses in Tanzania, Egypt (special operations) and the Soviet Union, including a Soviet Army Staff Course in 1971. He returned to South Africa in 1992 and attended the Zimbabwe Army Staff Course in 1994. In 1995, he attended the SANDF Joint Staff Course and was appointed General Officer Commanding Northern Cape Command in July of that year. General Godfrey Nhlanhla Ngwenya, (born 1950) was a South African military commander and diplomat. He served as Chief of Joint Operations from 2001 to 2005, and Chief of the South African National Defence Force from 2005 until 2011. Early life Godfrey Ngwenya was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 28 April 1950. He attended Orlando High School, where he matriculated in 1970.
