Krubert Nel
Brigadier General Krupert Eric Nel is a retired South African Army officer. Military career Brig Gen Nel joined the South African Defence Force at the School of Engineers in 1978 as a National Serviceman, where he later became an officer. In 1980 he completed the Special Forces Basic Training and was transferred to 4 Special Forces Regiment in Langebaan. In May 1985 he participated in the ill-fated incursion into Cabinda - Operation Argon - that resulted in two Special Forces operators being killed in action and a third being captured by MPLA forces. From 1994 to 1998 he was the Officer Commanding of 4 Special Forces Regiment and then served as the Chief of Staff of the South African Special Forces Brigade, becoming the General Officer Commanding in 2003. The officer commanding (OC), also known as the officer in command or officer in charge (OiC), is the commander of a sub-unit or minor unit (smaller than battalion size), principally used in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. In other countries, the term commanding officer is applied to commanders of minor as well as major units. Normally an officer commanding is a company, squadron or battery commander (typically a major, although formerly a captain in infantry and cavalry units). However, the commanders of independent units of smaller than company size, detachments and administrative organisations, such as schools or wings, may also be designated officers commanding. The term "officer commanding" is not applied to every officer who is given command of a minor unit. Les Rudman
Major General Les Rudman was a General Officer in the South African Army from the infantry. Military career General Rudman was an honorary Special Forces Operator, Pathfinder and parachutist instructor. He was appointed to the post of Deputy Chief of the South African Army on 1 October 2011. He was awarded the ''Sword of Honour'' at the South African Military Academy in 1976. 4 Reconnaissance Commando (South Africa)
The 4 Reconnaissance Commando is a defunct South African Special Forces unit of the South African Defence Force that was formed in July 1978, specialising in amphibious operations. History In 1976, during Operation Savannah, a need was identified for more operational special forces units and in particular units with more specialised skills. In March 1976, Major Malcolm Kinghorn formed a sub-unit specialising in amphibious operations for use in Angola during Operation Savannah. It was formed at Salisbury Island, Durban and consisted of a headquarters unit of Kinghorn and a NCO and two units of six men each and was called Charlie (C) Group of 1 Reconnaissance Commando. Renier Coetzee
Brigadier-General Renier (Cojack) Coetzee is a General Officer in the South African Army. Military career Gen. Coetzee served in 32 Battalion and then in the South African Special Forces, for a long time as the Chief of Staff of the South African Special Forces Brigade.
