Les Griffin (rugby League)
Leslie Clive Griffin (1907 – 1985) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s. Playing career Originally from Tumut, New South Wales, Griffin played for New South Wales in 1930 and 1931 before moving to St. George. He played first grade for only the 1935 NSWRFL season, but in doing so created a club and NSWRFL point scoring record. In a match against Canterbury-Bankstown on 11 May 1935 at Earl Park, Arncliffe Earl Park is the name of a former sports field in the Sydney suburb of Arncliffe. From 1925 to 1939 it was the site of New South Wales Rugby Football League Premiership club, St. George's home ground and headquarters. Dave Brown (rugby League, Born 1913)
David Michael Brown (4 April 1913 – 23 February 1974) was one of Australia's greatest rugby league footballers. Brown in his distinctive headgear was said to be one of the most admired sights in the game during the 1930s. He won two premierships with Easts and scored so many points, tries and goals and established so many records (some may never be bettered) that he is referred to as "the Bradman of league". In 2003 Brown was inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and in 2008 he was named in the New South Wales rugby league team of the century. In 2018, Brown joined Rugby League's elite by being inducted as a Rugby League Immortal. Background Brown was born Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Earl Park, Arncliffe
Earl Park is the name of a former sports field in the Sydney suburb of Arncliffe. From 1925 to 1939 it was the site of New South Wales Rugby Football League Premiership club, St. George's home ground and headquarters. The ground was provided by a club benefactor named Lancelot Lewis Earl (1862-1938). Lancelot Earl owned and lived on the Earl Park estate until his death in 1938. The estate was sold in 1940 and a factory was built on the site. St. George The St George Dragons played their home games at Earl Park from 1925 until 1939 in the New South Wales Rugby Football League Premiership. Earl Park was situated opposite the Arncliffe Railway Station, and was built on the site that one was a flourishing market garden. It transformed into one of the finest rugby league grounds in Sydney. The oval itself measured 175 feet by 150 feet. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the NRL Telstra Premiership, as well as competitions facilitated by the New South Wales Rugby League, including the Canterbury Cup NSW, the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harvey Norman Women's Premiership, Tarsha Gale Cup, S. G. Ball Cup and the Harold Matthews Cup. The club was admitted to the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, predecessor of the current NRL competition, in 1935. They won their first premiership in their fourth year of competition with another soon after, and after spending the 1950s and most of the 1960s on the lower rungs went through a very strong period in the 1980s, winning four premierships in that decade.
