''Les Gitans'' is the fourth studio album by French-Italian singer Dalida, released by Barclay Records, catalogue number 80 094, in 1958. In 2002, Sammel released a remastered version in CD and 10" (25 cm) vinyl record (LP), catalogue number 981 . In 2004, Universal Records released a remastered CD, catalogue number 981 , as part of a compilation containing re-releases of all of Dalida's studio albums recorded under the Barclay label. Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti (; 17 January 1933 – 3 May 1987), professionally known as Dalida, was an Italian-French singer and actress born in Egypt. She sang in eleven languages and sold millions of records internationally. Pierre Delanoë
Pierre Delanoë (16 December 1918 – 27 December 2006), born Pierre Charles Marcel Napoléon Leroyer in Paris, France, was a French lyricist who wrote thousands of songs for dozens of singers, including Dalida, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Petula Clark, Johnny Hallyday, Joe Dassin, Michel Sardou and Mireille Mathieu. Delanoë was his grandmother's maiden name. Career Following obtaining a law degree, Delanoë began a career as a tax collector, and later a tax inspector. After World War II, he met Gilbert Bécaud and began working as a lyricist. For a period, he even performed alongside Bécaud in clubs. The repertoire of the Italian-French singer Dalida includes no less than 700 songs that have led her to record in 11 languages. She signed her first contract with the Barlcay record company on May 2, 1956 and found success with Bambino, which sold 175,000 copies. From 1957 to 1961, she became the biggest record seller in France. Dalida met her first million records sold with the song Le jour où la pluie viendra (Am Tag Als Der Regen Kam for the German version) released in 1958. Twelve years later, she created with her brother her own label called International Show. Her records were initially distributed by Sonopresse (with which she sold nearly 4,600,000 records in the first four years) then by Carrere in 1978. Francesco "Franco" Migliacci (born 28 October 1930 in Mantua) is a lyricist, producer, and actor. Biography He studied in Florence where his family had settled, here he entered in a competition for young players, in which he won a stay of three days to Cinecittà and a modest role in a film by Nino Taranto. After this, he moved to Rome and the world of cinema where he worked in small parts in about 18 films. In 1958, with Domenico Modugno, Migliacci coauthored the song ''Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu'', aka '' Volare'', which has become one of the most well-known Italian songs in the world. "Nel blu, dipinto di blu" (; 'In the blue ky s I waspainted blue' or 'In the blue-painted blue ky), popularly known as "Volare" (; 'To fly'), is a song originally recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno. Written by Modugno and Franco Migliacci, it was released as a single on 1 February 1958. The song spent five non-consecutive weeks atop the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in August and September 1958, and subsequently became ''Billboard'''s number-one single for the year. In 1959, at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards, Modugno's recording became the first ever Grammy winner for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Hubert Giraud (composer)
Hubert Yves Adrian Giraud (3 March 1920 – 16 January 2016) was a French composer and lyricist. Career Giraud began his career playing the harmonica with Django Reinhardt's jazz group, the Quintette du Hot Club de France. In 1941, he was recruited by Ray Ventura to play the guitar during Ventura's big-band tour of South America. Six years later, he joined Jacques Hélian's orchestra in scoring a series of post-war romantic comedy films, including Georges Combert's 1951 feature, ''Musique en tête''. His song "Dors, mon amour", performed by André Claveau, won the Eurovision Song Contest 1958. Giraud (with lyricist Pierre Cour) wrote the song "Gitans" ( "Les Gitans"). It was further translated into English by B. Guilgud (a.k.a. Guilgudo) and A. Gill and recorded by Corry Brokken.
