Les Diamants De La Couronne
''Les diamants de la couronne'' (''The Crown Diamonds'') is an ''opéra comique'' by the French composer Daniel Auber, first performed by the Opéra-Comique at the second Salle Favart in Paris on 6 March 1841. The libretto (in three acts) is by Auber's regular collaborator, Eugène Scribe with the help of Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. Performance history The opera was performed at the Opéra-Comique 379 times up to 1889, under the title ''Les diamants de la reine'', and was revived in Marseilles on 20 March 1896. Outside France it was first performed in Brussels on 25 November 1841, New Orleans on 31 March 1842, Munich on 15 July 1842 (in a German translation by V. A. Francisco Asenjo Barbieri
Francisco Asenjo Barbieri (3 August 1823 – 19 February 1894) was a well-known composer of the popular Spanish opera form, ''zarzuela.'' His works include: '' El barberillo de Lavapiés'', '' Jugar con fuego'', ''Pan y toros'', ''Don Quijote'', '' Los diamantes de la corona'', and ''El Diablo en el poder''. Career He was born and died in Madrid, appropriately, since the themes and characters of his operas are often distinctly Spanish and Madrilenian. Among the characters featured by Barbieri are bullfighters, ''manolos'' and ''manolas'', and even (in ''Pan y toros'') the famous Spanish painter, Francisco Goya. The character of much of Barbieri’s work is farcical, utilizing mistaken identity and other devices to entertain the audience. Toussaint-Eugène-Ernest Mocker (16 July 1811 – 3 October 1895) was a French opera singer and stage director. In his 30-year career as a principal singer at the Théâtre Impérial de l'Opéra-Comique he created numerous roles in the company's world premieres and from 1860 served as a stage director there. In his later years he was a singing teacher at the Conservatoire de Paris. Joseph-Antoine-Charles Couderc
Joseph-Antoine-Charles Couderc (10 March 1810 – 16 April 1875) was a French operatic tenor (and later baritone) prominent on the stages of the Opéra Comique in Paris where he created numerous roles. Life and career Couderc was born in Toulouse where his father had a grocery shop. He was working in his father's business when Louis Benoît Alphonse Révial (1810-1871) a tenor from Toulouse already studying at the Conservatoire de Paris convinced him to study singing and facilitated his entry to the conservatory in 1830. After studying singing there under Louis Nourrit, Couderc made his debut as Rodolphe in Boieldieu's ''Le petit chaperon de rouge'' at the Opéra-Comique in 1834. He created several roles with the company between 1834 and 1841 and was greatly admired for his acting ability. Anna Thillon
Sophie Anne Hunt, known by the name of Anna Thillon (Calcutta or London, 1812 or 1813 or 22 June 1817 or circa 1819; Torquay, 5 May 1903), was an operatic singing sensation in the United States, based in San Francisco, California and then New York, New York. She performed in the former city's first professional season. Her parents were Elisa(beth) and Joseph Hunt.
