Leonie Therese Burke, née Hemingway (born 27 January 1949) is a former Australian politician. She was the Liberal member for Prahran in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2002. Burke was born in Melbourne to Douglas and Marie Hemingway, and was educated at Genazzano Convent (1954–66) and Invergowrie College (1967). Leonie Marjorie Short (born 1 January 1956) was a member of the Australian House of Representatives for eight months in 2001, representing the western Brisbane seat of Ryan for the Australian Labor Party, a party she had been a member of since 1981. Short was elected on 17 March 2001 at a by-election following the resignation of John Moore in what was normally a safe Liberal seat. The Liberals' preferred candidate, Michael Johnson, was unable to stand because he had not renounced his British citizenship. Léonie Martin, also known as Sister Françoise-Thérèse, VHM (3 June 1863 – 16 June 1941) was a French Catholic nun who led a cloistered life as a member of the Visitation Sisters.
