Leonardo Padrin
Leonardo Padrin (born 29 August 1959 in Ponso) is an Italian politician from Veneto. A long-time Christian Democrat and member of Communion and Liberation, in 1995 he joined the United Christian Democrats and in 1998 Forza Italia. Elected for the first time to Regional Council of Veneto in 2000, he was deputy-leader of Forza Italia's group from 2006 to 2007. A close ally of Giancarlo Galan, Padrin was appointed under-secretary for the Council in Galan III Government. Re-elected for the third term in 2010, he sat in the group of The People of Freedom. Ponso is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Padua in the Italian region Veneto, located about southwest of Venice and about southwest of Padua. 2010 Venetian Regional Election
The Venetian regional election of 2010 took place on 28–29 March 2010, as part of Italy's big round of regional elections. Luca Zaia, rising star of the Northern League, was elected President by a landslide. With the support of 60.2% of Venetians, he was the most voted President of Veneto since direct election was introduced in 1995. Liga Veneta became the largest in the region with 35.2%. The total score of Venetist parties (also including North-East Union, Party of the Venetians, Venetian National Party and Liga Veneto Autonomo) was 37.6%, the highest so far. Veneto (, ; vec, Vèneto ) or Venetia is one of the 20 regions of Italy. Its population is about five million, ranking fourth in Italy. The region's capital is Venice while the biggest city is Verona. Giancarlo Galan (born 10 September 1956 in Padua) is an Italian politician. Political career After having been an activist of the Italian Liberal Party in the 1970s and the 1980s, he was not active in politics until he joined Forza Italia since its foundation in 1994. In the same year he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies. In 1995 he ran successfully for President of Veneto. He was re-elected in 2000 and 2005. He did not stand for re-election in 2010, when the centre-right coalition supported Luca Zaia of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord for President. He was Minister of Agriculture in Silvio Berlusconi's fourth cabinet from 2010 to 2011, filling the place vacated by Zaia.
