European Commission
The European Commission (EC) is the executive of the European Union (EU). It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission (informally known as "Commissioners") headed by a President. It includes an administrative body of about 32,000 European civil servants. The Commission is divided into departments known as Directorates-General (DGs) that can be likened to departments or ministries each headed by a Director-General who is responsible to a Commissioner. There is one member per member state, but members are bound by their oath of office to represent the general interest of the EU as a whole rather than their home state. The Commission President (currently Ursula von der Leyen) is proposed by the European Council (the 27 heads of state/governments) and elected by the European Parliament. The Council of the European Union then nominates the other members of the Commission in agreement with the nominated President, and the 27 members as a team are then ...

Forestur
Forestur is a pilot project, co-financed by the European Union through the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, aiming at increasing the skills of tourism professionals in rural areas by providing lifelong learning services on-line. Objectives of the project The main objective of the project is to provide tourist professionals in rural areas with continuous, specific and high quality training adapted to their needs. Considering the isolation and tight schedules of people who work in rural areas, Internet is the only reliable way to provide them with a proper training. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can counteract the disadvantages of remote geographical locations. So, it becomes an ideal tool to reach rural tourism employees. Forestur has also taken advantage of other ICT features that represent an alternative choice to traditional management for other sector companies. They offer a wider range for advertising activities to simplify administrative work. In order to ...

Training Programs
Training is teaching, or developing in oneself or others, any skills and knowledge or fitness that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, productivity and performance. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at institutes of technology (also known as technical colleges or polytechnics). In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, training may continue beyond initial competence to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. People within some professions and occupations may refer to this sort of training as professional development. Training also refers to the development of physical fitness related to a specific competence, such as sport, martial arts, military applications and some other occupations. Types Physical training Physical training concentrates on mechanistic goals: training programs in this area de ...

Educational Policies And Initiatives Of The European Union
In the European Union education is at the responsibility of its Member States and their Ministries of education that they have; in such, the European Union institutions play only a supporting and overseeing role. According to Art. 165 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the Community The EU also funds educational, vocational and citizenship-building programmes which encourage EU citizens to take advantage of opportunities which the EU offers its citizens to live, study and work in other countries. The best known of these is the Erasmus programme, under which more than 3,000,000 students have taken part in inter-university exchange and mobility over the last 20 years. Since 2000, conscious of the importance of Education and Training for their economic and social objectives, EU Member States have begun working together to achieve specific goals in the field of Education. By sharing examples of good policy practice, by taking part in Peer Learning activities, b ...

Apprentices Mobility
Apprentices mobility is the movement of students and teachers in vocational education or training (VET) to another institution inside or outside their own country to study or teach for a limited time. The term is usually used in the context of European Union (EU) policy. Under the EU Lisbon agenda, attempts have been made to lower cultural, socio-economical and academic barriers to mobility. Mobile learners are usually divided into two groups: '' free-movers'' are learners who travel entirely on their own initiative, while ''programme students'' use exchange programmes at department, faculty, institution or national level (such as Leonardo da Vinci II). Terminology The practice of going abroad to learn has been denoted by different terms in different contexts over the years, such as "exchange" or "transnational mobility". For the specific practice of sending people abroad on placements in public and private enterprise, the more neutral term of "placements abroad" has been prefer ...

SLOOP Project
SLOOP (Sharing Learning Objects in an Open Perspective) is an eLearning and open content project started in 2005 from a European project co-funded within the Leonardo da Vinci programme. SLOOP is a community of practice of teachers who share Open Learning Object (OER). The original idea was to apply the free software philosophy to the production of pedagogical materials for e-learning. Another two European Projects have followed: Tenegen & Sloop2desc. History A Learning Object (LO) is, by definition, a reusable chunk of learning content: the reusability is the main motivation in favour of LOs. But if an LO is covered by copyright, it can be reused from the technical point of view, but legally it is only reusable by the owner. The SLOOP Project introduced the idea of free or open Learning Object: an LO with a licence that allows the material to be used freely, to be changed and to be distributed. The SLOOP community includes teachers from many countries who share LOs. The SLO ...

Ploteus
PLOTEUS is an acronym of Portal on Learning Opportunities Throughout European Space, meant to connote ''πλωτηρ'' (ploter) which means "navigator" in ancient Greek. It is a European Union web portal, coordinated by the European's Commission Directorate-General for education and culture, that aims to help citizens find out about education and training opportunities, throughout the countries belonging to the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Turkey, though the latter did not participate in PLOTEUS at its launch, as it was not a member of the Leonardo da Vinci programme yet. According to France 5, the portal offers an "easy access" to an "excellent source of information" from primary school to postgraduate education. PLOTEUS has been prioritised as a "project of common interest" by the European Commission (Commission Decision of 23 December 2002, article 8.2.c). The European Parliament and the European Council have confirmed in 2006 their "support for transnation ...
