The Culinary Institute Lenotre (CIL) is a French-owned Culinary College in the US located in Houston, Texas, and was founded in 1998 by Alain Lenotre, son of the acclaimed French pastry chef Gaston Lenôtre (1920 - 2009), and his wife, Marie Lenotre. The school is specialized in culinary arts, baking & pastry arts, hotel & restaurant management and Sommelier. The institute offers associate degrees and diploma as well as continuing education programs for professional and recreational cooking classes for non-professionals. The school also operates an onsite restaurant that doubles as a training application environment for its students: Le Bistro. Marie LeNôtre
Marie Lenotre (born 1945) is a French-American higher education administrator and the co-founder and director of the Culinary Institute Lenotre. Lenotre is married to Alain Lenotre. The couple co-founded the Culinary Institute Lenotre in 1998. Lenotre is the author of ''Appetites, a Memoir''. In her book, she writes about her life with Alain Lenotre, their business history and their journey to the United States. Education Marie Lenotre has a bachelor's degree in drama from the University of Athens in Greece, a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in English and creative writing both from the University of Houston. She also holds a master's degree in public health education from the University of Texas. André Le Nôtre
André Le Nôtre (; 12 March 1613 – 15 September 1700), originally rendered as André Le Nostre, was a French landscape architect and the principal gardener of King Louis XIV of France. He was the landscape architect who designed the gardens of the Palace of Versailles; his work represents the height of the French formal garden style, or ''jardin à la française''. Prior to working on Versailles, Le Nôtre collaborated with Louis Le Vau and Charles Le Brun on the park at Vaux-le-Vicomte. His other works include the design of gardens and parks at Chantilly, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud and Saint-Germain. Gaston Lenôtre (, born 28 May 1920, died 8 January 2009) was a French pastry chef. He is known as a possible creator of the opera cake (''gâteau opéra''), the founder of Lenôtre a culinary empire, whose brand includes restaurants, catering services, retail concerns and cooking schools, as well as one of the three founders with Paul Bocuse and Roger Verge of Les Chefs de France at Epcot in Orlando, Florida, US. Biography Lenôtre was born on a small farm in Normandy, in the commune of Saint-Nicolas-du-Bosc. Both of his parents eventually moved the family to Paris and became restaurant workers. Eventually, his father's ill health forced them to move back to the province from which they came. Lenôtre then had to struggle to find a position in a kitchen in Normandy.
