Lennart Jirlow
Lennart Martin Jirlow (24 April 1936 – 18 April 2020) was a Swedish painter and scenographer. He got his education at Konstfack and at the academy of arts in Florence. His first exhibition was in Stockholm in 1958, and after this he spent most of his time in France. Most of his motifs are inspired by everyday occurrences in the south of France and Paris, and also theatre was a popular subject within his work. He did portraits of Karl Gerhard, Maj-Britt Nilsson and Jarl Kulle. He also designed posters for Bocuse d'Or and Gröna Lund. Jirlow also worked with stage design and he helped with the staging of ''Spanska flugan'' at Vasateatern 1982, ''Gamle Adam'' at Vasateatern 1984 and ''Annie Get Your Gun'' at Chinateatern in 1990. He also made the film ''Utflykt i det sköna'' which was broadcast on SVT in 1980. ''Svenska Dagbladet'' (, "The Swedish Daily News"), abbreviated SvD, is a daily newspaper published in Stockholm, Sweden. History and profile The first issue of ''Svenska Dagbladet'' appeared on 18 December 1884. During the beginning of the 1900s the paper was one of the right-wing publications in Stockholm. Ivar Anderson is among its former editors-in-chief who assumed the post in 1940. The same year ''Svenska Dagbladet'' was sold by Trygger family to the Enterprise Fund which had been established by fourteen Swedish businessmen to secure the ownership of the paper. The paper is published in Stockholm and provides coverage of national and international news as well as local coverage of the Greater Stockholm region. Its subscribers are concentrated in the capital, but it is distributed in most of Sweden. Konstfack
Konstfack, or University of Arts, Crafts and Design, is a university college for higher education in the area of art, crafts and design in Stockholm, Sweden. History Konstfack has had several different names since it was founded in 1844 by the ethnologist and artist Nils Månsson Mandelgren as a part-time art school for artisans, under the name "Söndags-Rit-skola för Handtverkare" ("Sunday Drawing School for Artisans"). The school was taken over by ''Svenska Slöjdföreningen'' (today known as Svensk form) the next year and renamed ''Svenska Slöjdföreningens skola''. In 1857, the first two female students (Sofi Granberg and Matilda Andersson) were accepted, and the following year female students officially were invited to apply. Karl Gerhard
Karl Emil Georg Gerhard (born Karl Emil Georg Johnson; 14 April 1891 – 22 April 1964) was a Swedish theater director, revue writer and actor. In 1938 he changed his surname to Gerhard and used the pseudonym Karl-Gerhard. Biography Karl Emil Georg Johnson was born in Hedvig Eleonora parish in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of Frans Emil Jonsson (1861–1917) and Jenny Augusta Jonsdotter (1863–1906). In 1916, he appeared as an actor under the direction of Hjalmar Selander at the Nya Teatern in Gothenburg. In 1919, he debuted as a couplet singer at the cabaret Fenixpalatset in Stockholm as successor to Ernst Rolf (1891–1932). For many years, he was an actor in various traveling theater companies. Through most of his career, he wrote songs and couplets as well as a large number of sketches, dialogues and monologues for performance on the stages of Stockholm and Gothenburg. Maj-Britt Nilsson
Maj-Britt Nilsson (11 December 1924 – 19 December 2006) was a Swedish film actress of the 1940s and 1950s. Biography Nilsson was born in Stockholm, and trained there at the drama school of the Royal Dramatic Theatre. She appeared in three Ingmar Bergman films: '' Till Glädje'' (''To Joy'', 1950), '' Sommarlek'' (''Summer Interlude'' or ''Illicit Interlude'', 1951), and '' Kvinnors Väntan'' (''Secrets of Women'' or ''Waiting Women'', 1952). She also appeared in the English-language film ''A Matter of Morals'' (1961), directed in Sweden by John Cromwell. Maj-Britt Nilsson died in Cannes, France, aged 82. Jarl Kulle
Jarl Lage Kulle (28 February 1927 – 3 October 1997) was a Swedish film and stage actor and director, and father of Maria Kulle. Kulle was born in the village of Truedstorp, outside Ekeby, Bjuv, Ekeby, Sweden, and was the son of the merchant Nils Kulle and Mia Bergendahl. Kulle was one of the leading Swedish stage actors of his generation and often appeared in TV productions, at the Royal Dramatic Theatre of Stockholm as well as in a number of films, several of these directed by Ingmar Bergman. Taking on many star parts of the classical and modern repertory, appearing in contemporary TV drama and musicals and armed with remarkable gifts for both comedy, romantic drama and slightly declamatory but controlled pathos, he was one of Sweden's most loved modern actors. Gröna Lund
Gröna Lund (; "Green Grove"), or colloquially ''Grönan'' (), is an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden. Located on the seaward side of Djurgården Island, it is relatively small compared to other amusement parks, mainly because of its central location, which limits expansion. The amusement park has over 30 attractions and is a popular venue for concerts in the summer. It was founded in 1883 by James Schultheiss. History Gröna Lund's roots are in the 1880s, making it Sweden's oldest amusement park. However the area has been used for similar purposes since the early 18th century. Vasateatern or ''"Vasan"'' (English: ''Vasa Theatre'') is a private theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located at Vasagatan 19–21 in central Stockholm. History The theater was designed by Fredrik Ekberg (1837- 1898) and inaugurated in 1886.
