Lemwerder
Lemwerder is a municipality in the district of Wesermarsch, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is on the left bank of the Weser, approximately east of Oldenburg, and northwest of the centre of Bremen. Since April 2001, Lemwerder is governed by Mayor Christina Winkelmann. Abeking & Rasmussen
Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R) is a shipyard situated in Lemwerder, near Bremen in the German state of Lower Saxony. The shipyard is on the left bank of the River Weser, and currently comprises five production halls with associated workshops and offices, an inner harbour and a syncrolift. The business was founded in 1907 by George Abeking and Henry Rasmussen. Rasmussen, who was known as a talented yacht skipper, proved to be equally adept as a yacht designer. In its early years, the yard worked for the private, commercial and military sectors, building wooden sailing yachts and motor yachts, together with patrol boats and other specialised vessels. In 1928, the yard began building Starling Burgess' Atlantic one-design; at this time, the post-war economy made European-built boats attractive in the USA. Lürssen (or Lürssen Werft) is a German shipyard with headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack and shipbuilding facilities in Lemwerder, Berne and Bremen-Fähr-Lobbendorf. Lürssen designs and constructs yachts, naval ships and special vessels. Carl Röver
Carl Georg Röver (February 12, 1889May 15, 1942) was a German Nazi Party official. His main posts were as ''Gauleiter'' of Gau Weser-Ems and '' Reichsstatthalter'' of both Oldenburg and Bremen. Early years Röver was born in Lemwerder and saw service in the First World War, initially with the regular army before joining the Propaganda department of the Oberste Heeresleitung. Wesermarsch
Wesermarsch is a '' Kreis'' (district) in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. Neighboring are (from the east clockwise) the districts of Cuxhaven and Osterholz, the city of Bremen in the state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the urban district of Delmenhorst, the district of Oldenburg and the urban district of Oldenburg, and the districts of Ammerland and Friesland. Geography The district is located at the western banks of the River Weser between Bremen and the river's mouth. Several rivers cross the district from west to east, the largest of them being the Hunte, which runs through Oldenburg before entering Wesermarsch. Friedrich Lürssen
Friedrich Lürssen (born 1 March 1851 in Lemwerder; died 30 November 1916 in Bremen) was a German shipbuilder and company founder of the German company Lürssen. He constructed the first motorboat for inventor Gottlieb Daimler. Life On 27 June 1875, the 24 year-old Friedrich Lürssen set up a boatbuilding workshop in Aumund, a suburb of Bremen, Germany. His first vessel demonstrates his trademark: originality and high-quality. Friedrich Lürssen's shipyard grew and thrived, and at one point he also began placing orders with his father. Lürssen won several trophies in boat racing. Eleven years later, in 1886, Friedrich Lürssen built the world's first motorboat. Weser
The Weser () is a river of Lower Saxony in north-west Germany. It begins at Hannoversch Münden through the confluence of the Werra and Fulda. It passes through the Hanseatic city of Bremen. Its mouth is further north against the ports of Bremerhaven and Nordenham. The latter is on the Butjadingen Peninsula. It then merges into the North Sea via two highly saline, estuarine mouths. It connects to the canal network running east-west across the North German Plain.
