Lemuria is a symphonic black metal band from Antwerp, Belgium, formed in 1999. Lemuria is the name of a Lemuria (continent), legendary lost continent. History The band was conceived in 1999 under the name 'Spinal Chill' and a demo named ''Demonic'' was released in the same year. In 2001, the band name was changed to Lemuria. A second demo ''The Vault of the Witness,'' was recorded in The Cavern studios in Antwerp and released in April 2002. Tales, Ale & Fire (2004) Their first full-length album, ''Tales, Ale & Fire'' was released in 2004. At the time, the sound was compared with Finntroll, Ensiferum, Thyrfing, Bal Sagoth and Rhapsody of Fire, Rhapsody. The sound of the album is best described as a blend of folk and black metal. Graspop Metal Meeting is a Belgian heavy metal festival held in Dessel each year since 1996, excluding 2020 and 2021 due to covid restrictions. Despite the small size of the festival grounds (upholding a perimeter of only ~4 km) the festival draws a large number of spectators from around Europe, with a total of 220,000 visitors in 2022, up from 200,000 visitors over the course of the 2019 edition, and 152,000 in 2015. Rhapsody of Fire (formerly known as Rhapsody) is an Italian symphonic power metal band formed by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli, widely seen as a pioneer of the symphonic power metal subgenre. Thyrfing
Thyrfing is a viking metal band from Sweden. The band is named after the royal sword Tyrfing from Norse mythology. History Thyrfing was formed in 1995 by Patrik Lindgren (guitar), Jocke Kristensson (drums), Peter Löf (keyboard) and Kimmy Sjölund (bass guitar). Northern mythology and the Viking age was an interest of all the members. After two demo tapes that gained a lot of positive response in the underground scene, Thyrfing signed to the Dutch record label Hammerheart Records in 1997. In Stockholm's Sunlight Studio in Stockholm, their debut album was recorded, showing a much more varied songwriting. The album was then released in March 1998.
