Salesius Lemmens
Salesius Lemmens, was a Dutch Franciscan friar who served as the Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Karachi, then a part of British India. He died at the age of 37 in a drowning accident. Early career Lemmens came from a large family and was raised in a devout Catholic home. A younger sister, Gertrude Lemmens, also became a noted missionary in India. He attended a college run by the Friars Minor in Venray, and 7 September 1922 was received into the Franciscan Order at the Alverna friary in Wijchen. Lemmens professed solemn vows on 27 March 1927. On 18 March 1928 he was installed as a subdeacon. and was ordained a priest on 10 March 1929 in Oostrum. After his ordination, Lemmens was assigned to the friary at Woerden and then in August 1931 as an assistant pastor at the Franciscan church on the Laanderstraat in Heerlen. Leroy Lamis
Leroy Lamis (1925–2010) was an American sculptor, digital artist and art educator known for his work with Plexiglas. His works have been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe and are in the permanent collections of numerous institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Early life Lamis was born in Eddyville, Iowa on September 27, 1925, and later moved to Los Angeles. As a teenager, he had a job with MGM Studios. Lamis went on to attend New Mexico Highlands University and Columbia University. In 1954 Lamis married Esther Sackler. The Lemmensinstituut The Lemmensinstituut (Lemmens Institute) is a Belgian conservatory of music. It was founded in Mechelen, in 1879, by the Belgian bishops as the ''École de musique religieuse'' (School of Religious Music). It was later renamed after its first director, Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens. Although its programs were greatly expanded over the years, it remained in essence a school of religious music until the 1960s and 1970s, when major changes occurred. It moved to Leuven in 1968, and its programs were aligned on those of Belgium's conservatories of music, such that in 1971 its "laureate" diploma was considered legally equivalent to a "First Prize" of a conservatory. It also added a teacher's training course (a "Music Pedagogy" course of study), and a high school specializing in music. Celina Lemmen
Celina Johanna Maria Lemmen (born March 2, 1985) is a Dutch swimmer who specialized in freestyle events. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), and a double medalist in sprint freestyle at the 2001 European Junior Championships in Valletta, Malta. Lemmen grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where she attended Ronald Reagan High School and competed for their swim team. She then attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she majored in management, and swam for the SMU Mustangs under head coach Steve Collins. While studying in the United States on an athletic scholarship, Lemmen has earned numerous high school and state titles, and received two-year All-American honors in college swimming. Lemmen made swimming history in the international scene at the 2001 European Junior Championships in Valletta, Malta, where she won a total of two medals: a silver in the 200 m freestyle (2:03.27), and a bronze in the 100 m freestyle (57.47). Steve Lemmens (September 8, 1972 – October 11, 2016) was a Belgian former professional snooker player who played on the main tour between 1991 and 1995. Career Lemmens first burst onto the snooker scene in his home country when at the age of 16 he reached the finals of the Belgian Amateur Championship, a record that would not be beaten until 2010 by Luca Brecel. Three years later in 1990 he won the Belgian Championship after defeating five-time champion Mario Lannoye 7–2 in the final, as a result Lemmens went on to represent Belgium in the 1990 World Amateur Championship where he reached the final eventually losing 11–8 to Irishman Stephen O'Connor. Sean Lemmens (born 2 November 1994) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League. He is of Indigenous Australian heritage. Early career Lemmens was born into a family of Indigenous Australian descent ( Tiwi). He began playing junior football for the Salisbury Football Club and moved to the Port Adelaide Magpies. Leon Lemmens (16 March 1954 – 2 June 2017) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Belgium. Lemmens, a native of Maasmechelen, was ordained a priest on 10 July 1977. He was named an auxiliary bishop to the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels by Pope Benedict XVI on 22 February 2011 and consecrated on 3 April 2011. Biography Lemmens followed high school at the Klein Seminarie in Sint-Truiden. He entered seminary in Sint-Truiden (1971-1976) and was ordained to the priesthood to the Diocese of Hasselt on 10 July 1977. He obtained a bachelor in theology at the KU Leuven (1976) and studies moral theology in Rome. He obtained a licentiate in moral theology (1979) and became doctor in theology in 1989. Jean-Nicolas Lemmens (also Joannes Nicolaas Lemmens or Joannes Nicolaus Lemmens) (3 June 1850, in Schimmert – 10 August 1897, in Cobán (Guatemala)) was a Dutch Catholic priest and Bishop of Victoria, Vancouver Island, Canada. He was a strong supporter of the British Columbian organised labour movement. Family Jean-Nicolas Lemmens was born the son of Godfried Lemmens and Gertrude Bemelmans, within a large Dutch Roman Catholic, family originating from the Beek-Schimmert area in the southern Netherlands. His family produced a number of Catholic priests, including his brother, Hendrik Lemmens, also a priest in Victoria, Canada, and Guillaume Lemmens (1884-1960), Bishop of Roermond in the Netherlands.
