Leire Iglesias
Leire Iglesias Armiño (born 7 April 1978 in Bilbao, Vizcaya) is a Spanish judoka, who played for the middleweight category. She is a five-time World Cup champion, and a silver medalist at the 2008 European Judo Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. She also won two bronze medals for the same division at the 1999 Summer Universiade in Palma de Mallorca, and at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Jeju City, South Korea. Iglesias represented Spain at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she competed for the women's middleweight class (70 kg). In the preliminaries, she first defeated Brazil's Mayra Aguiar, and eventually upset world champion Gévrise Émane, who was considered a top medal contender in this event. She reached only into the quarterfinal round, where she lost by an automatic ippon to German judoka and Olympic bronze medalist Annett Böhm. Annett Böhm
Annett Böhm (born 8 August 1980 in Meerane, Saxony, East Germany) is a German Judoka. Career She began practicing Judo in PSC Glauchau/Meerane at the age of 7 years. Her first coaches were Erhard and Michael Hinke. In 1995 she went to a sport boarding school in Leipzig where she trained as part of the high performance Judo group. Böhm finished her Master of Sport science at the University of Leipzig in 2005. In 2007, she started to study journalism. Her coach since 1999 has been Norbert Littkopf. He was for several years also the coach of the German women's national team. Her first major success was in 1997, when she won the gold medal at the European Junior Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Two years later she won the silver medal. Ippon
is the highest score a fighter can achieve in a Japanese martial arts ''ippon-wazari'' contest, usually kendo, judo, karate or jujitsu. In Judo In Judo, an ippon may be scored for a throw, a pin, a choke or a jointlock. For throws, the four criteria to grant an ippon are: speed, force, landing on the back and skilful control until the end of the landing. Gévrise Émane (born 27 July 1982) is a French judoka. She was the European champion in the women's 63 kg weight class. Emane first gained attention at the 2005 World Judo Championships in Cairo, Egypt where she won the silver medal in the women's 70 kg class. Next year, Emane won her first European title at the 2006 European Judo Championships in Tampere after an ippon in the final, against the German Heide Wollert. Emane became the world champion for the first time at the 2007 World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro by defeating Ronda Rousey of United States by points in the final match. Mayra Aguiar
Mayra Aguiar da Silva (born August 3 1991) is a Brazilian judoka. She was a bronze medallist in three consecutive Olympics, 2012, 2016 and 2020. She is also three-time world champion (2014, 2017, 2022). She is the first Brazilian woman to win three Olympic medals in an individual sport. Bio Mayra was born in Porto Alegre and began judo training when she was young. She trains under Kiko ( Antônio Carlos Pereira) in a group with João Derly, Tiago Camilo and others in SOGIPA. Derly and Camilo are also her sporting idols. In December 2008, she suffered a serious injury to her right knee. Judo At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 70 Kg
The Women's 70 kg (also known as ''middleweight'') tournament in the judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 13 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. A total of 22 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka with a bodyweight of less than 70 kilograms. Preliminary rounds started at 12:00 Noon CST. Repechage finals, semifinals, bouts for bronze medals, and the final were held at 18:00 pm CST. This event was the third-heaviest of the women's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 70 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes.
